Hi All

In the other UK fly-in thread and after some offline exchanges, it seems a consensus has formed around Sywell EGBK this year. In the absence of John Ferguson and as I am based there, I am going to organise this year.

Why Sywell?

Hard Runway
Loads of Parking
Used to handling owners group fly-ins.
Choice of restaurants.
Hotel onsite (May attract some more overseas visitors).
Very GA friendly (no Hi-Viz for example)
Reasonable fuel price: £1.87 just now.
Reasonable landing fee and of course I will press for a discount.

Their summer programme of events starts in May so our usual late April timing will more than likely work with them.

Before I talk to the airfield manager can we post some reaction to the date/location in this thread and give an indication of numbers.

Look forward to seeing you all there.

Sounds good to me Lawrence, count me in. I missed the last get together because my plane was in Guernsey being caressed by Jim Richards. Looking forward to it.

I'm at Leicester so it's a hop, skip and a jump for me and home in time for tea! Count me in.

Re: UK Fly-in 26th April 14?

i would try to make that possible.
Comming from Germany !

OK, so it looks like we have a few takers. I'll contact the airfield manager to advise him of our intentions and get his advice on locations within the property to meet and eat.

I'll advise more detail in the thread including information for overseas visitors within the next few days.

See you all there!

PS. Looking forward to a fly-in where I can tow my aircraft out for the photo and put it away without having to commit aviation.

Re: UK Fly-in 26th April 14?

We have some feedback about a clash with the PPLIR AGM on the 26th is this going to affect many? Should we go for the 19th?

Re: UK Fly-in 26th April 14?

Lawrence stay where you were the 19th puts you into Easter.

Ah Ha! Staying is a good idea.

We may lose a couple to PPLIR but I expect it will be a minority. I'll confirm the 26th with the airfield, both dates were OK with them.

UK Fly-in 26th April 2014

Sywell Aerodrome is confirmed for the Euro Fly-in on the 26th April 2014

For those not familiar with the airfield:

ICAO ID - EGBK

Official name - Northampton Sywell Airport.

Airfield website-
http://www.sywellaerodrome.co.uk/

AIP Page-
http://www.nats-uk.ead-it.com/publi...tent&task=blogcategory&id=106&Itemid=155.html

For those arriving from overseas there is an hotel on-site:

The Aviator Hotel-
http://www.aviatorhotel.co.uk/
Tel +44 (0) 1644 642111

Sywell is a UKBF and Police certificate of agreement airfield. If inbound from Europe - 4 hours notice of arrival is required, 12 hours in and outbound from the Common Travel Area. You can do this via the online GAR system at - http://www.aopa.co.uk/Gar6/
Android and I-apps are also available, search "UKBF GAR"

The airfield has an AFIS service. If not arriving on a flight plan please call for PPR on - +44 (0) 1644 644917 or email tower@sywellaerodrome.co.uk
There are three grass strips and a concrete runway at Sywell. Although the active runway may be one of the grass strips, it is normal to request the hard runway and this is usually acceptable unless there is a fierce crosswind. The grass at Sywell is in very good condition and is smooth.

The airfield has agreed a discounted landing fee for the event of £10.00.

Once we have a better handle on numbers we can arrange whether to meet at the hotel or in the "Pilots Mess". Please continue to add if you are coming to this thread.

See you all there!

I am planning to attend as a new Commander owner. Is this normally a one-day event, or the whole weekend? Do pilots brings their spouses :D....

It is normally a one day event, very casual. Some do bring Spouses but I would say there are in the minority, although I will be bringing mine.

If you want to make a weekend of it I can advise on things to do in the local area. There is a reasonable hotel onsite or a short hop into the surrounding cities by car or to London by air. I can advise on flying options for you if you wish to go to another area of the country after the fly-in.

See you there.
