UK Commander Get Together 2013

I hope you had a good time. I had to work today.

Re: UK Commander Get Together 2013

The Fly-In was excellent, with over 20 aircraft taking part...

For once we had wonderful weather.

Many thanks to Mike Perry and Steven Roberts for the organization

It was also great for us UK based owners to have a chance to thank Jim Richards for his role in keeping the fleet flying.

Here is a quick view of part of the line-up of UK based Commanders (I hope that it has uploaded!)

To the UK flyers,

Please answer some questions for myself and others here pertaining to PPR. I got my ticket in the UK and I am sure I did the PPR thing, I know that I did at RAF Chivenor in Devon.

Is it something to do with weather and checking the condition of a sod runway? do they close?

It seems like they are doing you a great favour by allowing you to fly in and spend money.

Not being sarcastic, but I have never called Tesco for permission to drive out there and buy groceries. What are they there for?

I am sure that there is a very good reason for PPR.

Life is a barrel of fun.

Ken I am sure you're not suggesting that with Tesco they can all horse around! Opps sorry fellows something came over me to say that.

I hope all have a wonderful Fly-in of good cheer and also of good tech tips especially with Jim Richards and Mike Perry guiding topics.

Wish I could be there.

Ken, you need to get back here more often for flying rather than visiting your relatives, then you would see that private pilots are considered over here to be a bunch of Champagne swilling playboys, ruining the environment by spraying our Leaded fuel residues over the countryside. We are largely viewed upon as a noise nuisance and are roundly decried by the largely conservative rural communities who happen to live next to our airfields.

On many occasions PPR is required as it is often a condition of planning permission for the airfield. The airfield operators are generally terrified that a visiting pilot will spark a legal challenge from the local community against their certificate of lawful operation as happened at Kemble over the last decade when the locals attempted to have it closed down. It took £100000 in legal costs for the airfield owner to successfully defend the case and around 10 years of their time. The result has meant that they are highly sensitive to noise abatement areas and want to brief the visitors on where they are etc.

Not everywhere has PPR but at the larger airfields it is common. You'll be pleased to know that where you learned, White Waltham, you can just turn up.

Hi All,

Let's hope that the upload worked this time...just a couple of photos from the day.
