Had a perfect GA trip the past two weeks. Had a nice tailwind from Detroit all the way into Florida. Departed IFR but clear from the GA/TN line going south. 5:05 duration, Landed perfect VFR SW of Jacksonville at Keystone, with 12 gallons left. So I burned 56 gallons in just over 5 hours, Burned 11 gal per hour. Yes, I flew Lean of Peak Average speed 154 kts. As I said, nice tailwind. Then to Miami and Orlando for business. Back up to Richmond IN and relatives for Easter. Then to Charlotte, Raleigh, Columbus and Cinci on business. Then to Oxford, OH social. Then home. ( I left off a couple of fuel stops.) 13 Days. 24 hours in the air. About $1500 in fuel, which ranged from $3.60 to $6.35.
Had a coworker with me from CLT to RDU who was fairly well blown away that we were departing, taxiing , and landing between airliners ... then the STARs and SIDs in and out of CLT and RDU. He had no idea the complexity of the system. And they changed my SID THREE times leaving CLT, Once at Clearance. Second at a taxiway intersection hold, then they went for #3 just before departure and I said, "Ground, I am from far, far away and this is SID #3 in 5 minutes. How about Radar Vectors? He said "Sure!" Sometimes you just gotta ask. 4 instrument approaches in the mix , two rNAV, two ILS but landed in perfect weather back home. Covered more than 3500 miles in the air. Had 4 clients paying so recovered $2550 in expense billing, leaving $1,050 for oil, mtce, etc. They rarely work out that well. Saw a ton of people. Did a lot of good work. Back and forth over the Appalachian Mountains several times, always a treat in the spring. And tailwinds on 80% of the legs. Have to remember that. You tend to think its usually against you.
What a country! And it sure helps to have a perfect business racket to support a GA plane.
