Today’s weather

Moazzam .. spoke to a friend of mine a few weeks ago. He (and his family) has had Covid twice in the last year.

Yeah - not ruling that concern out. But right now we're within 4 weeks of the infection (dec 20 - positive - Jan 3rd rd when we all tested negative again).
There has to be SOME immunity for the next few weeks.

It will only degrade with time. So might as well go in Feb. Our biggest exposure will be hotels. So thinking about Airbnb there instead.

I really enjoy winter flying. I have the SWITCHON system, with 2 outputs, one for the big Dragon cowl/engine heater and one for the ceramic in the baggage compartment. 3 years and the system has worked perfectly every time with the Phone App. Highly recommended. Also put chains on the gas tug. Works great. Thinking of putting Bridgestone Blizzak winter tires on the plane, just like on my truck. p.s. make damn sure your vent under the "divan" in the center of the back seat, is open and fully connected to the belly vent. Make sure it sucks, not blows. Essential for winter warmth and CO safety. And ... have a CO detector. I also carry a fairly extensive "winter survival kit" it the cargo hold.

I just purchased a chain for my tug, but I had to remove it as it was scratching the epoxy floor. Chains don’t work at all on the concrete floor, only outside in the snow. Ideally, a guy needs two tugs, one to pull the airplane out, and one with chains to get it back inside.

Rubber "chains" work on concrete!

I know you pilots in the north will get a good laugh at our local plow work. I've been trying to get 3 Tango Charlie ready to fly for a pilot and plane relocate mission this afternoon. Currently 300 overcast here at the beach so I'm going to scrub until next week. I would have done the mission this weekend but biden will be in town and the airport I need to go to is in the inner ring of the TFR. :(

Great video Gary. Yes, we have a tad more snow than you.

Finally got the pre-heat system going , fired right up - took the plane up for a quick pattern- even with winds gusting to 23. Took off on one runway, landed on another to make it a less dramatic x-wind. All of Jan was a wash. Looking to head south in a couple of weeks. Come back by spring ..

The fuel pump did take a while to build up pressure - dunno. ~5 weeks of inactivity in an extreme winter. Will see how it goes this weekend.

Temps in the 50s.

Did fire it up again today - even with winds in the 20s again.
Fuel pump pressure built up no problem. I am attributing last weekend's fuel pump behavior to air bubble or something due to inactivity.

All systems worked fine. I did the same today - quick flight. Took off on Runway 24 with winds 31015Gusting20 - almost a 70 degree x-wind with gusts. I landed on Runway 31 for a non-event - At 90 knots indicated on final - my groundspeed was ~70 ..

20s!!? That's all?

I haven't flown in a loooong time, so I jumped when I saw the forecast for a warm, sunny Saturday. On the way out to the airport a friend called and asked, "did you see the winds aloft forecast?". Well, no, I actually didn't check it. The TAF said scattered 8000, and that's all I saw. I decided to head for Block Island. Only one restaurant is open this time of year, but I only needed one place for lunch.

In a "picture is worth a thousand words" kind of way, see if you can tell which direction the wind was blowing.
