I always love when the timing and weather contribute to a nice sunset while in flight.

Re: Sunset in flight

Very nice.

There have been some sunset times coming back from Knoxville and over Jellico that is breathtaking.

Re: Sunset in flight

Hi Jason! Funny you should mention -Jellico, was recently doing some historical research about that region, resulting from a discussion I had with my 93 year young friend from Hendersonville /Nashville. Know the geography along the Ohio R/LOU and I-40 across TN pretty well, but have not flown that much in Tennessee. Find your LOU- Knoxville flights intriguing. Maybe this year, try to link up with you & Michael & the at his flyin for some 'Golden Moments'.

Glenn, was re looking at your sunset pic, but also noted the IFR chart on your (MFD?)
IPad or panel mount unit?

Having spent those 6 weeks under the panel recently, thinking center stack upgrade may be 'in the inevitable' future projects.

That's a panel mounted MX20. My GX60 drives the position and I have a Jepp Chartview subscription for IFR enroute and approach plates for the Eastern US so I can fly paper-less. XM weather comes in via a GDL69. If I ever get ADS-B in I can display it all on there, too.

It's a nice setup and you only need a very basic GPS for your position source. Hi res display, too. MX20's and the later MX200 come up pretty often in the used avionics market when owners pull them for an all-in-one display. I think I only paid $1500 for this unit about 7 years ago.

When I have to replace the GX60 I'll probably look for a small, simple WAAS GPS to replace it with and keep the basic setup.

Re: Sunset in flight

Passing through a 'calm' front Sat morning and as the overcast ahead uniformly broke-up it left a very pronounced shadow on the landscape below. Almost at the point of categorizing it as a visual illusion. The linear shadow looked like a very conspicuous ridgeline running the left / right limits of your peripheral vision. But in the peanut plains of West Ga, hardly any steep ridgelines to be encountered. I was expected a little 'roll turbulence' from the ridgeline:confused: - did get a very bumps as we passed through, not bad. Goes to show you, 40 years and it never gets old . . .;)

Re: Sunset in flight

Nothing wrong Gonzalo,
But that is a 'healthy' angle on your trim tab. Hey if it keeps you straight its doing its job.

Nice picture!! I'm envious.
