My 22 year old son passed his IFR check ride yesterday! He had to fly up to Fort Smith AR to do it - no other DPE's around NE Texas were available until a month out.

He flies my 1981 Beech Sundowner, which is a great airplane for him to fly. I actually enjoy flying it a lot too!

Here he is arriving back in Gladewater 07F from Arkansas - he likes to show off and keep NLG off the runway as long as possible!

Congratulations!!!...I sure do miss my Sundowner, other than trying to grease the landings...

Pass along a congrats to Patrick. What an accomplishment, toughest rating to obtain.

So, when is he going to fly the Commander? ;)

Well....being 22 years old with 150 hours and just now getting his IFR rating, my insurance company is not too keen on adding him to the policy. I will get another quote, but with my relatively high hull value and the fact that he did not yet have his IFR rating, they quoted me $8K to add him to the policy earlier this year. Needless to say that is one reason why I still have the Sundowner.

I can let him fly the Commander, but it has to be with his CFI as PIC. But I can assure you that he is chomping at the bit to take it up.

Congratulations to Patrick! File all you can and no deviation for clouds anymore!
Log every hour you can in Complex / High Performance and insurance will get more affordable. 150 hours gets you started mostly.
