OK folks-- we are too far overdue!! How about a Fly In for the SE Commanders to Leeward Air Ranch? My wife has agreed to do the cooking so we can all land, commiserate and eat here. I figured we could land at 9:00-9:30 or so and have coffee till breakfast is served at 10:00 and then we can sit around and tell lies till noon or so. For those of you that have not been to Leeward (FD04) it is a 6200 X 165' debatably the best grass runway in the nation. (Leewardairranch.com) If I get some positive responses I'll send runway info out individually. I know it is right after Thanksgiving, but hope many will be able to attend. So please let me know if the date works for you. If we get at least three responses, we are on! Hope to see many of you here. Ken--hope you can make it. I would love to hear more about your new place. Reasonable gas is available nearby.;)

Best regards,

Tom Ewing

Tom,

Count me in,

Please spread the bad news to all that you will soon become the second best grass airport in the USA.

Grand Oaks Plantation Airpark will have two runways sprigged with Tifway 419 that will be irrigated.

Life is a barrel of fun.

Ken Andrew.

Great, looking forward to seeing you guys again as well.

Re: SE Commander Fly In--11/27@ 9:00

Must send my regrets. Unfortunately I fly to Charleston for Thanksgiving with the family and will not return in time. Sorry I will miss out on this one. Look forward to making it back to the Leeward Ranch another time.

Re: SE Commander Fly In--11/27@ 9:00

Sounds good but a 0900 arrival makes for a real early departure out of New Orleans. Its time I visited my place in Canaveral anyway. Maybe if I overnight someplace in Georgia on my way? Stop and see Ken and fly down with him?

Re: SE Commander Fly In--11/27@ 9:00

Well, we have three, so weather permitting, we are on for the 27th. Great idea meeting up with Ken on the way down Ian. You can also come in here the day before and we have a guest suite in the hanger if you want. Just let me know.

Tom

Re: SE Commander Fly In--11/27@ 9:00

Ian,

Sounds like a plan. I have two spare bedrooms.

The suite at the hangar is a bit rough, creeper makes a good bed for a short guy and my plane cover bag can be used as a pillow.

Life is a barrel of fun.

Tom, I will be at the outlaws house on Turkey Day, maybe this is the excuse I need to explain why I should leave early. Great offer and idea. I will let you know if I can make it later. Thanks, Dan

If the weather gods cooperate this might just work. :D

Re: SE Commander Fly In--11/27@ 9:00

Just flew in to a grass strip in Mississippi this afternoon, met up with Lonnie, JoAnne and the girls and flew a Blanik L-23. What a nice way to spend an afternoon.

Lonnie, Max said he would sign me off solo in the Blanik since after 5 minutes it was all coming back to me. Can't believe it is 40 years since I got my original glider license. I just don't feel that old!

What Fun! :)

Re: SE Commander Fly In--11/27@ 9:00

Ian, How long did you plan to stay in Fla. If you go down in the evening and return the next I could might make the trip also.

Re: SE Commander Fly In--11/27@ 9:00

Ian thats great you will be making a few more trips to MS then I presume. We had a great time also and good to see you thanks for coming up. I got back to prentiss and got in the AVID and flew two hours till dark. Landed on three different sandbars on the pearl river and two friends fields what a great day. I may try to do the FL fly-in also and come to Kens Friday night maybe. I will have to see how it all plays out.

Re: SE Commander Fly In--11/27@ 9:00

Ken is going to have to open a motel (flytel?) at the new field to accomodate visitors! :D

Jay, I will likely head on over to Merritt Island afterwards. I have not been to my office there in many months and I need to visit. Probably stay through the weekend.

Lonnie, that is really getting back to basic flying and I didn't realize how much I missed flying gliders. It is a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon so, yes, I guess I will be up there more frequently when the weather is conducive. Each to his own I guess, and that is fun flying for me. Its 140 nm from NOLA but the closest gliderport according to the American Soaring Association.
