Hi Gary, I hope I didn’t get in too late on this thread. There are lots of ways to approach Savannah. My choice is to get any hotel down close to River St on Bay St — look for best deals…like Hilton Garden, Hampton, Renaissance, etc. Don’t take hotels in other areas, not even other historic districts. The action is Bay St. You want to be along Bay St, period. Uber from Sheltair FBO (also Signature fbo but $$$) to your hotel and skip any rental car that way you won’t have to pay expensive hotel parking not to mention difficult and expensive (practically non-existent) parking in other areas. Use the trolleys or rent bikes to get around or just walk. There is enough to see without other distractions like Tybee, Jekyl, or Simons—-do that on another trip. Cathedral tours, Juliet Lowe Girl Scout house, Harbor areas, are things to do. Restaurants you don’t want to miss are Pink House (make reservation at least 2 weeks in advance), Pirate’s House, and maybe Paula Deen’s Lady & Sons Restaurants. Don’t miss the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum — see it either first from airport when you arrive or last when you depart as it is close by KSAV and you might use fbo courtesy car or short Uber ride over. You could spend an entire day there seeing the exhibits.
