Hi All,

Many of you have been asking me for rudder service bulletin parts.

I am pleased to announce that Aerodyme has completed engineering and received FAA-approval of a complete procedure for rudder repairs. We have made every effort to address the whole family of rudder issues we have seen, and to comprehend all of them.

The complete repair procedure comprehends the following:

1. Better-than-Bulletin structural reinforcement at the upper fitting attachment.
2. Reinforcement for the attachment of the horn weldment truss to the spar. ( approx 6" up inside the rudder)
3. Spar replacement.
4. Skin crack repairs.

I have attached a copy of the master drawing below so you can see how and where the various repairs are applied.

Each "kit" includes a repair report, and the Form 8110-3 approval for your airplane. We fabricate the parts for you as a service, and then your shop does the installation into the rudder. Alternatively, rudders may be sent to us for turn-key repair. We have just completed the first full kit installation here, and have several more rudders in our queue at the moment.

I need your help in establishing prices that will keep food on my table, but also be as low as possible.

My questions for all of you:

1. How many of you might be interested in just the Service Bulletin repair to reinforce the upper fitting attachment?
2. How many might be interested in the full procedure?

I would be pleased to discuss our findings and recommendations with any of you who might like to email or call me for a further briefing.

Your continuing support, and business for Aerodyme products and services, is greatly appreciated as always.

Thanks,
Jim

P.S. We have fabricated press dies for forming beaded skin doublers because there are no replacement skins available at this time. For those rudders with skin cracks, we can form a doubler, as required, from .016 or .025 for installation on the inside. The service life of such repairs depends greatly on the fit of the doubler, so we have spent the $$ to tool properly.

Re: Rudder Kits

Jim,
I have minor cracking at both sides of the horn truss weldment. My IA is saying it's not an airworthiness issue at this point, but I am considering repairing it. What is the cost for spar replacement + reinforcement at the weldment and upper hinge fitting? This would be turn-key.

Thanks,
Ken
