It is that time again... barely a month away. Let's all start sharing who is going, when, so we can get together. Last year we made a Tail number, name and cell phone list, with approximate days expected to be there and that was helpful. Facilitated people meeting up. So, if you are willing, email me to scott@truen.com and put OSHKOSH in the subject, then provide ...

Name(s)
Tail Number
Colors
Cell Phone
email
Expected days in attendance.

I will only share with those who end their info in, deal? It would be a BIG help if you would give it to me in exactly that order, thanks.

Please click on the Poll so we have a general idea.

Re: Oshkosh 2015

Cold beer and a comfortable folding chair are on my North 40 essentials list but not to worry if you forget them, ample opportunities to spend money on such sundries once you're there!

Re: Oshkosh 2015

Well, if you are like Sherman, you will find the Sedamarama Camp always has a couple of things you need but did not think of. (Sherman, I am really disappointed you will not be in the neighborhood this year!) Son Conor and I will arrive Thursday AM and depart Sunday.

BTW, for any first-timers, be sure to catch the night airshow & fireworks, now both Wednesday and Saturday. It is worth the trip on its own.

It could be dry a a bone all week or it could storm like mad. Bring a really good tiedown system (and you can buy one there, but the old spiral jobs are comparatively worthless) and bring extra stakes and ropes for your tents. Then look at the neighbors upwind (west) of you. See how well they are or are not tied down. Scary sometimes.

In the big storm and squall line a few years ago, where Sean Tucker flew the most incredible routine I have ever seen as the squall line approached (beyond crazy with the winds and gusts) my son, a couple of friends and I secured several planes that were hardly tied down, secured several tents of neighbors and threw their chairs and such in them, and rescued and sheltered 3 scared little kids, all elementary age, whose Grandpa left them alone. He did not show up till 30 minutes after the storm passed. Not even a thank you!

So really, bring extra ropes and stakes.

Oh ... if you are a guy of a certain age and have to get up in the night to water the lillies or whatever, bring one of your disposable johnny thing into the tent at night. It is SO much better than walking out into the wet grass barefoot at 3:30 AM.

There is a truck that comes around now and then with ice for sale, if you are lucky enough to catch him, but ice is for sale along the road at several places.

Re: Oshkosh 2015

Conor and I will host a get-together Friday at 8:00 PM at our site in the North 40. Bring something to drink if you can. We will have some dogs or brats or something for later-night cravings. If you can make it, call or text me to 248.390.0773. or email scott@truen.com

Scott-We were the ones there Camping ALL WEEK and had everything including the kitchen sink and backup canned food. Just because I didn't have extra oil you needed-Gheese! We even had enough extra bedding to hostel Kelly overnight when weather was inclement. We were Commandering in Luxury way b4 you & Conner showed up.
.
Guess you've been talking with Sid (Not going to be In neighborhood this year ) or did you actually remember the Toxic Pesticide poisoning that affected Camellia.

Those planning to Camp all week-turns out Oshkosh is USA Pesticide Central-they spray the N40, they sprayed the Campus and they sprayed the dorm rooms. With the winds-by Wednesday the Pesticide in the .
air had affected over 350 people, who like Camellia had hives, swelling & irritated eyes and throat, and showed up at the medical tents. So we went to the dorms-and they just as bad. By Thursday I Had irritated eyes and itchy skin reactions too.
So just be aware.

I really luv Oshkosh Air venture but have to pass this tear. However-anyone going MUST partake of Sid's WW2 AIRCRAFT Engineering &Technical specs presentation.
Absolutely phenomenal!

Re: Oshkosh 2015

Sorry, Sherman, I forgot about the pesticide thing! Camilla was really hurting, I recall. Well, now ... you DID come by twice for some things but I am NOT going to reveal the details to protect your reputation.

My guess is
A: they will be more careful spraying this year due to the reactions. Had never seen or heard it in prior years so my guess is the vendor screwed up.
B: They have to spray the week before, so by that next Friday it should be subsided. so ..

Sorry you and Camilla won't be there this year.

Re: Oshkosh 2015

I ordered one of those portable, collapsable 13-foot flag poles today, a smallish Michigan flag and a light weight wind sock like they use at RC events. That should make it easier for Friday Night gathering folks to find us. I would just love to have a small COG flag. How to make one quickly. Find a small all white flag, print iron-on transfers?

Re: Oshkosh 2015

Will try and look you guys up on Saturday

Re: Oshkosh 2015

Sid! You coming by Friday? We will also be around Saturday before the fireworsk show.

Re: Oshkosh 2015

Listening to OSH airport communications on liveatc.net yesterday evening and this morning, Wed 7/22. They have no camping or parking for GA aircraft single or twin engine. Only homebuilt, warbirds, antique and vintage (pre '71) are getting in, unless you have a reservation.
First time in 26 yrs I will miss KOSH but it sounds like a good turnout this year. Or they can't park as many planes as they used to.

Jeff

Re: Oshkosh 2015

Jeff
Yes The turn out is very good. The camp ground has grown to the road south by the dump station.
I am sure the price of gas has improved the attendence.
The airplane parking is smaller because of development over the years. The Hilton took some of the North Fourty years ago.

Re: Oshkosh 2015

Currently,
8:00 am OSH time the airport has been closed. Listen to the fisk arrival radio things are backing up and getting tense. The airport had an incibent and will be down for another 45 mins. Or more

Re: Oshkosh 2015

Reminder for those around on Friday Still. All are welcome to stop by our spot in the North 40 any time after 7:00 PM, maybe earlier. I will put our location on the board here tomorrow afternoon. We should arrive a bit before noon. We have never had a problem getting a spot on Thursday late morning because there are a ton of Wednesday and Thursday AM departures. Works for us! (OK, NOW, I have said it so just watch ...)

My email is scott@truen.com and my cell is 248.390.0773. My hearing is not so hot, so my son Conor's cell is 248.390.0062 so feel free to call him if I do not answer.

Re: Oshkosh 2015

Re: Oshkosh 2015

Hello to all. I'd like to introduce myself. I am David Eisenberg. I am a new Commander 114 owner from Israel. I am here at Oshkosh, and just made contact with Scott. I am hoping to meet with him tomorrow, Saturday, at the airshow. I am looking forward to exchanging information and learning all I can from the Commander.org group.
