Oshkosh 2011

Re: Oshkosh 2011

Scott thanks for the offer - nice try but I have my own tent I need to for the after hours social life! So thanks but I am in Sunday - so I'll just wander the field and look for a uncamped plane.

I dunno, Sid. I am trying to imagine that if I left my plane there ... came back and found you camped by it ... well, you might get some Redneck from Mississippi who'd either beat you up, or have his way with you. Be careful.

Well, you have my cell. if you need a new place to camp starting Thursday, Conor and I will arrive mid-morning. Just call. We'd be happy to have you.

That aint right Scott but very funny. I rather expect Sid to pull up with a "pro".

Just be patient... you gotta have one of the infamous OSH t'strms while you're there. Isn't Air Venture unless a few unstaked tents go cartwheeling across the runways.

Post some pix. We want pix.

Re: Oshkosh 2011

Bill you were right I texted Jim Saturday night at 12 just for fun as we were still up coming home from Concert in Orange Beach. He text me at 3:30 am said big Thunder storms rolling through so I guess you were right.

Re: Oshkosh 2011

You heard it here first... LOL.

Re: Oshkosh 2011

I arrived Sunday, saw Dave S., had a good time for couple days. Sid pitched his tent on opposite wing and he is awaiting Scott's arrival today (row 539). The Thunderstorm Bill mentioned hit before I was due to depart Wed morning, tent didn't blow across the runway but I did discover that water proof of tent fly is expired. After long taxi across grass taxiways looks like my Commander has been 4-wheeling a jeep mud road

Re: Oshkosh 2011

Welcome to AirVenture. ;-) Still a wonderful place to visit. The mud and sweat wash off but the memories will long remain.

Re: Oshkosh 2011

I hope someone will post some pictures of our Commanders at Oshkosh... :)

Re: Oshkosh 2011

Bill & Lonnie sorry to disappoint you no tent a cartwheeled & hence no Marlyn Munro skirt blowups were on view! We slept through or were minorly inconvenienced by the squish stuff but EAA soon put down the plastic webbing in all teh bad places and the fun, flying, learning, socializing went on.

I enjoyed camping under Bob Welsh's wing and enjoyed his company - his accent is Southern rather than Welsh though!
WISH EVERYONE WAS HERE WE'D PRETTY UP THE AIRPLANE PARKING BY OUR PLANES

Are you still there? We are in Waukegan, waiting for the show to end to fly in. WX was a mess from CHGO to DTW today. hope to arrive right after show ends at 6:30

Re: Oshkosh 2011

So we arrived at KOSH a bout 6:45, the usual craziness after OSH had been IFR then opened up. Had a 172 fly out to the west right over Fisk and Ripon in the opposite direction of incoming traffic. How is it possible that a guy who actually landed at OSH for the show could pull that one. Lemme tell you the controller was screaming bloody murder at him. Then there was the jerkwitz in the mooney in front of us, 300 feet about the prescribed altitude, speeding up, slowing down .... sigh. Just the usual. Part of the OSH adventure but damn, couldn't people just read the NOTAM and follow the rules? It is so easy when you do.

But ... after a quick switch from landing 27 to 18 ... the mooney landed at the 3rd dot ... we beat him off the runway by 3 taxiways ... they taxied us up to the North 40. Had two controllers on the runway turn us 180 in opposite directions. they got in an argument. Kind of funny. Finally a guy comes up onthe wing from behind and tells us they just closed North 40 parking because so many people got stuck in the mud trying to get out after today's rain. They send us all the way to the Vintage parking at the threshold of 36. almost 3 gallons taxiing! But it worked out fantastic. Conor and I are parked ON the flightline. It is the best spot ever. incredible luck. will send pics tomorrow.

Re: Oshkosh 2011

Gang,

We flew in last Sunday and departed Wednesday, just after the storm rolled though. Great time at KOSH. My first time flying in and out. What an experience.

Re: Oshkosh 2011

Will have some pictures tomorrow, but the Saturday night show and fireworks were absolutely phenomenol. A total of 5 night-time acts. Puts a whole new spin on aerobatics and everyone was left pretty overwhelmed at the display. Had never seen that before, and its something I wanat to see every year. Also made friends with a group of Argentinians and Conor befriended another group from South Africa. They were all great, and blown away by the "only in America" experience.

Anyone know who owns 112CA?

Re: Oshkosh 2011

Agree with Scott great show Saturday night. We had Commander Eugene Cernan, last Rocket Man to walk on the Moon, over to the house for 1" Rib Eyes Thursday Night, great stories.Went Bob Hoover's Forum and had a chance to ask him (last question from the crowd) if he considered promoting the Rockwell Airplanes accompanied by 2x Playboy Bunnies in Gold Lame Jumpsuits one on the Hight Lights of his carreer,he replied "ABSOLUTELY)

Re: Oshkosh 2011

Juergan ... I totally forgot that you were there. There was a Commander, N112CA parked down from me. Anyone know who that is?

My son took some fantastic pictures, but it was with his high-end Nikon and the file sizes are too big to download. I will work on that, but no time at the moment.
