We are planning for Oshkosh.
We may camp under the wing for the first time. If we do, the BOYS must stay home.
Has anyone made plans for Oshkosh?

Re: Oshkosh 2011

Conor and I will be there camping "under the wing." Have not nailed down which days yet. Would be great to have a gaggle fly in together.

Re: Oshkosh 2011

I'm planning on going as well. Just finalizing which days and where i'll stay.

Re: Oshkosh 2011

Gang,

I'm planning on flying in on Monday and staying until Wednesday or Thursday (wx dependant). I have booked a house very close to the field.

Re: Oshkosh 2011

Well, if the stars align correctly I'm going as well. Sunday departure, landing @ FLD.

Has anyone made the crossing from SoCal? Pam doesn't like to go much higher than 10,000 feet for very long so I'm looking to avoid Colorado.

First time there........... can't wait.

Re: Oshkosh 2011

Michael, I will be there camping from Thursday morning to Sunday morning. If you are there that long, call me on 248.390.0773. I have come to the west coast via Colorado and Reno and you are right, staying below 10,000 is tough. But I know there is a Northern route through Wyoming that you can use and stay 10K and below. And of course, coming across South into Texas you can do it. Would me an incredible experience to fly it both ways.

Pete Sattig lives in Both Colorado and Arizona and has flown out there for at least 100 years (or more?) Pete will know how to best do it.

Re: Oshkosh 2011

Thanks Scott.......we were planning to leave on Thursday but if things change I'll definitely call.

Hi Mike,

Are you and Pam planning on Sedona in September?

Re: Oshkosh 2011

Hi Vince. September is a scheduling nightmare for me. We would love to come but won't know until mid August what our commitments are.

Thanx for the reply, Mike. The cut-off for our special rates is August 19th. Hope you guys can make it.

Re: Oshkosh 2011

Hi Michael like Scott I advice same route, I have done several West coast to East trips in the Commander - I think for you via Salt Lake & Wyoming would work without going too high. At most you may need an occasional climb to 12500 to stay out of mountain turbulence & waves. Then through the bad land area of SD into MN & WI.

OK I know COGers are ready to shout 12500 is not legal for East bound - au contraire its even odd alts when 3000 ft AGL - since the mountains obviate that AGL problem you can leagally fly 12500. Take flight following so ATC helps you stay traffic aware.

Re: Oshkosh 2011

Hi all am going to be at OSH Sunday to the end. I have a request unfortunately I can't fly in - sigh plane is down.

May I camp alongside someone's plane without intruding into your own camping as this is a great way to do the show, I'd rather camp by the planes than in the normal camper area. Thanks in advance for the help.

If anyone needs a copilot for the final leg into OSH I can be in Fond du Lac and ride in with you as I've done it many times.

Thanks Sid

Re: Oshkosh 2011

Thanks for the advice Sid........we're staying with friends in Chilton so Fond du Lac is our destination......see everyone there.

Re: Oshkosh 2011

Sid, you can bunk next to 43W ... IF YOU HAVE YOUR OWN TENT!
But we will not arrive till Thursday AM. We will be there Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening. It will cost you one bottle of good Scotch. (Ask Ian, he will suggest something good!)

Did I mention, YOU HAVE TO HAVE YOUR OWN TENT ?!?!?!?!?!?

Re: Oshkosh 2011

Scott, you have no idea how much you want that separate tent. I saw Sid wandering about the Oshkosh grounds at the crack of dawn a couple of years ago. Tweren't a pretty sight! :D

Re: Oshkosh 2011

Point well taken! Thank God my strapping 6'5" Hockey Player son will be with me for protection! I'm going to have him bring an extra hockey stick.

Re: Oshkosh 2011

Scott thanks for the offer - nice try but I have my own tent I need to for the after hours social life! So thanks but I am in Sunday - so I'll just wander the field and look for a uncamped plane.
