I am officially an owner now. Harassed Judi for about 5 years, but finally pulled the plug on N1094J, a nice little 112 Hotshot. Sale couldn't have gone better. Former owner absolutely First Class. Now in hangar poring over all the nooks and crannies and stuff.

Already have a semi-technical question. Airplane came with an External Power Cable. Is there anything really, really wrong with hooking that cable up to a regular old battery charger just to provide panel power to do stuff like update the GPS database? Is hooking up to a real battery a much better choice?

Looking forward to Judi's comments. Hah !

Re: New OWNER..long time lurker

Welcome Billy. Been into PMP many times but last weekend parked at FXE because the overall fuel/fees/rental car was better. I think you question may depend on the type of battery you have, but a couple of the electronics whiz's will chime in shortly.

Hello Billy and welcome. I saw 94J after her annual took as you can see in the attached photo with 1161J (that also shows up in the banner once in a while).

Welcome to the group!

Not as long as you are hooked to a charger appropriate to aircraft batteries. Those are not your garden variety autozone batt chargers. The use of chargers has been discussed at length in prior posts. Use the search function to pull up those discussions.

it's about time Uncle Bill!
I still can't believe you finally own a Commander. ..'bout wore me out tryin'! lol

Congrats to you and Elizabeth, Bill! I'm sure 94J is happy being down here in sunny Florida.

Re: New OWNER..long time lurker

Welcome Billy, I use a charger with extended use for data updates, hangar flying, etc. I always turn everything on before running the charger, because without the amp draw, the volts will go too high. The battery will suffer if volts are too high and may boil it causing some caustic issues. It wouldn't be good for a gel cell either. Welcome to the group!

I also have the 112 Hotshot. great plane, hook battery charger all the time just on 10 amps while I learn the avionics. Works well for me.

Bill
Congratulations - I had traded a number of emails with previous owner Eric when he first purchased 1094J, he seemed very much like a class act, I'm sure the plane has been well kept.

Re: New OWNER..long time lurker

Hi Bill,

1094J has been a poster child on the homepage of the RCM website for a long time now - nice airplane. It's good to see her with a happy new owner.

Congrats,

Welcome Bill to the world of Commander. Lots of great info on this web site from super people. If you have a question about your plane, it will be answered here. Have fun flying your hot shot. I love mine!

Re: New OWNER..long time lurker

Thanks for all the good wishes. It did indeed come from a good home. Eric did quite well by 1094J. He has set a high bar for me. I just love the roominess of the cockpit !!
