New Owner (Hopefully) Looking for Good A&P for Pre-Buy

Hello everyone,

I have been renting airplanes for decades, and felt it was time to purchase one myself. I have been looking for about a year (at many different types and models) and finally found a nice Commander 114. I have flown one before for about an hour and love the plane. I live in NJ and this aircraft is in California. I would like to find a qualified, capable, expert A&P who works on Commanders and knows them very well. I would like to have this mechanic perform a very thorough pre-buy before I purchase the aircraft. Since it is coming up for annual in April, I may also ask them to do the full annual if the initial pre-buy comes up clean.

So I would appreciate any suggestions for a A&P who you would trust in Los Angeles/Santa Barbara area. Buying an airplane is obviously a big step and I want to be as sure as possible that it checks out before it becomes mine.

Thank you,
Frank.

Hey Frank, Can't help you with the A&P but I'm in NJ as well KMJX. doing a prebuy shortly myself. Where in Jersey are you?

Which tail number are you looking at. There's a member on this site that may have some history on it if you're interested.

Hi John,

Nice to meet someone local who is also getting into a Commander. I live in Hammonton, but I have been flying out of Lakewood. I have been at MJX many times. I think I will actually be flying out of N12 tomorrow afternoon. If you are around, perhaps we can meet and discuss Commanders?

First call with an insurance agent was not encouraging. They said that AIG has Commanders on the "do not cover" list due to non-availability of parts. That is worrying not just for insurance costs but also for repairs if/when I would ever need parts.

Frank.

Heading to Myrtle beach tomorrow otherwise I would. My best quotes for insurance were from Old Republic...there is a long thread here about insurance. They quoted me just under $2000 for the 114 I was looking at and just under $1500 for the 112A. I have basically zero time in type

Savvy Aviation will do pre buy inspections all over the country. It does have a cost associated with but they saved me a bunch on a 112TC in CA last summer
