New member out of kptk (Pontiac,MI.)

24BB

New member
Waterford, MI
Aircraft Year
1974
Aircraft Type
112/A
Reg Number
N24BB
Serial Number
157
Picked up my 112a in Oct. '13 from Fremont, MI (KFFX). She was originaly N157JJ sold new and based at Oakland,Pontiac (KPTK) for first 10yrs or so,and the west side of Michigan for the last 10yrs or so as N94UM with a paint scheme and colors of that nasty college in Ann Arbor.
Changed the number to 24BB and will do something with the yellow accent stripe this spring.
After finally finding a way to get signed off for insurance she was out of annual. Between my work load and going through her carefully it was a 5 month annual. She is flying 5-10hrs/month mostly with my 23 yr old son logging the time. The gear pump brushes failed recently, had to dump the gear only issue so far. Luckily a friend has a 112 also and has been preparing me for such events.

Re: New member out of kptk (Pontiac,MI.)

Welcome, we have a great group of owners in Michigan with Commanders at Willow Run, Landing, Flint, Sturgis and Muskegon, to name a few. We are willing to help or advise at any time. Some are long time owners, such as me with almost 14 years, and Pat Murphy with about double that!

Hi Jeff, welcome to the group from the COG - Canadian Owners Group ;-)

A beautiful airplane and I remember seeing UM for sale and a colleague of mine who is a UM Alumni salivating over it. Good thing he was not a pilot !

So much support here in the group on anything you may need. We have s/n 27 a quick flight away in Waterloo, Ontario so if you have any questions, get them to us.

Cheers, Tony

Welcome Jeff... We are trying to find a date to head to Jackson to kick tires and tell lies. Hopefully we make this happen soon.

Welcome Jeff, you'll have to filter most of this stuff. So Tony, you're trying to claim Michigan as part of Canada now, eh? :D

Has anyone gone to KSMD Smith field on the north edge of the Fort Wayne ARSA. Looks like they have good fuel prices and resurants nearby.

KRMY Brooks field in Marshall, MI. has Schuelers resturant near by. They have a shuttle van that will pick you up. They also have a frequent flyers club, on your 3rd trip they knock $25.00 off your bill.
I don't think they do breakfast though.

Re: New member out of kptk (Pontiac,MI.)

Been to Smith many times. Good FBO, new, nice folks. Was there mid-December and in the morning I was covered with a heavy layer of frost, despite low humidity. I was plugged in, but could not fly with the frost. Put me in their big radiant-heated hangar. Guy thought he should charge me "something" but was low key about it. I offered to buy a case of XC (and their price was low) and he said "Deal!"

Nice collaborative solution story.

Jeff,

Welcome to Commander Land. You'll find that we're a bunch of interesting cats. But love to share insights and help solve problems. As you see from the postings, we're kind of like herding cats.

Have fun with the new bird.
