Hi, new to this group; student pilot. After lots of research I decided to buy a commander and recently got a 1976 Commander 114 (N4734W - soon to be changed to 114C).

This 114 is little old, so thinking of doing some cleanup and fixes to give her a clean look and feel while continue training.

As a first time aircraft owner, keeps getting tons of questions. Would be glad to take tips and suggestions from experts here.

Thanks,
Kumar

Kumar, welcome to the commander family!! I own a 112, but I imagine the 114's are great as well... and more powerful of course. Good luck on your training. Insurance may cost you half of the airplane price :(

:( yes Marcos, you are right on the insurance, given I'm student pilot it costed me over 10grands. hoping to get PPL soon and acquire some hours to reduce for next year atleast.

Hello Kumar, I purchased my Commander as a student pilot also. Had great instructors to slow-walk me through the training process until they felt I displayed the skills and muscle memory sufficient to solo. I too did some upgrades during the process, which was much more expensive than I initially asked my wife to budget, and took longer than I expected, but in the end, am happy how it turned out and love the plane in its present state.

Good luck with your journey, and lean on the amazing members of this group to provide great guidance and advice.

Hello Kumar, I like your moxie! In diving into ownership like that! First some diatribe, our planes know how to fly, we just need to know how they do it. Congrats, you will be rewarded with an experience known only to the few! Welcome!!

Thanks Ray Arias.

Hello Doug Brown, I would be glad to hear about it, perhaps you can share with us when possible.

Hello Kumar and congratulations on your new-to-you Commander. You're at the right place to get your Commander questions answered.

Hi Kumar,
In addition to finishing up your PPL, I would recommend that as soon as you can, get that instrument rating. Besides helping your insurance premiums, it will make you a safer, better, and more precise pilot.

Kumar,

Welcome to the wonderful world of flying AND the wonderful world of being a Commander Owner!

Mike
