New Member interested in acquiring a Commander

Glenn, I totally agree with you. I flew my 112 from San Francisco to Missouri in July and going over the mountains takes some planning for sure. I can't remember exactly where I had a fuel stop, but I remember doing a few laps around the airport to gain altitude. From Saint Louis, MO to Teterboro, NJ I usually take it to 11K to ride those nice tail winds :D

A number of performance stats are in that FAQ I mentioned, but I can see 135kts ROP although these motors like running LOP. That sacrifices about 4-5 knots but does get the fuel burn down into the 8-9 gph Marcos mentioned.

Just be aware of density altitude with the straight 112.

I flew a bit around Alburquerque on the way to Sedona one time and it was challenging in the straight 112 at gross. If I lived around mountains, I'd seriously consider the turbonormalized 112 (called the Hot Shot). Different than the factory turbo setup and maintains the IO360 TBO. Those performance numbers are in the FAQ, as well.

this was a super helpful post for me because I live in ABQ and was wondering/worried about the straight 112 not being really capable of this altitude — hell Santa Fe is even higher the airport sits at like 6030ft

You really need a turbo charged airplane, or 114 as a Minimum

I agree with Allen, at TC is the way to go for your location. When I flew with Allen in his TC, he was like 11K altitude and with 30 something inches of manifold pressure!! My won't even get 30 inches at sea level :(
