Hello everyone, I have just recently learned of what a wonderful plane the Commander is and am in the market for one myself. I spent a few years with rotorcraft and then realized the practicality of owning a fixed wing is really what I am looking for. I started fixed wing only this year and have looked at several options but find the 112,114/115's to be top of the line in what I am looking for. I would really appreciate advice and the opportunity see/ fly with someone in person who is around the north east Georgia area. I see a lot of messages referring new members like me to Judy. Where would I reach out to her?

William, welcome aboard. I suspect Judi might chime in here, but you can reach her through Suncoast Aviation. 219.850.4083.

Two pieces of advice:

1. Buy a Commander.
2. Don't buy a Commander without Judi's help and depending on the model (112, 112 Hot Shot, 114, 114B etc) get some help from some of the owners in this club.

Welcome to a great group and a great airplane.

Welcome to the group, it's a great bunch of folks and a great airplane.

William,

Welcome to the group! Plenty of info and experience available.

Welcome William. If you haven't already found it, make sure you read through the official COG FAQ as it will answer a lot of common questions

William - welcome to the group!

You will find the a Commander very capable and comfortable. In addition to all the wonderful advice you are getting/will get :-) --- make sure you are realistic about your "mission" - how many people, how far, baggage, typical field/density altitude etc... These can help guide you between a 112 or 114 and Turbo or Hot Shot (turbo normalized).

Enjoy the adventure!

Agree 100% with Stephen. Judi knows the history of pretty much every Commander in the USA. She’s a fountain of knowledge and an invaluable resource for your Commander shopping.

Thank you to all for the great information and welcome to the community. I have made contact with Judi and found as you all have said that she is the one to look to for finding the right plane. I am still looking for someone close to my area who is a Commander owner and who would allow me some of their time to see the models in person. I currently fly Diamonds out of WDR but am looking to soon find the right one to purchase and would really appreciate your personal knowledge.

William, funny your flying out of WDR that is where I purchased my airplane and lots of experience AP’s at that airport!

Talk to Drue at Romanair! Ask the owner of the guy that has the flight school that rents the diamonds about commanders. He is the guy that was giving me my commander break in when we discovered the front wheel was on backwards.

Hey Chuck, Thanks for the information. I will try to make contact with Drue when I get back to the flight school this weekend. The flight school that rents the Diamonds is where I am doing my fixed rating. Dragonfly Aviation. I am flying DA-40's there. Great people by the way. Heidi and Jon are the owners and have also been very helpful. An AP there told me there is on based at WDR so I am hoping to make contact with this owner soon.

Yes Jon and Heidi nice people! Jon was my primary guy to get me time in a commander! It was I think my first real introduction to how useful this group are when it comes to advice. After days of trying to figure out commanders and a real scare on landing one of the groups members noticed from a picture that my front wheel had been put on backwards. I am sure Jon will remember this.

Good luck
