New member and doors question

Hi there! I am a fresh pilot and researching about Commanders. I test flew one recently and noticed quite strong noise level in the cabin. Researching internet pointed me to an article which mentioned that "later" commanders have aluminum doors, which replaced fiberglass ones and they supposedly addressed the noise issue. Does anyone know what years and commander models this change came into effect?

Thanks!
Natik

Never seen the fiberglass doors, I think that they were all changed by the factory as a recall. Judy will know for sure.

I've read something similar on avweb regarding the 114B.. but not sure if it has to do with the door itself:

After a while these small things begin to add up: The doors close snugly and securely, the airplane is quiet and devoid of air noise, the fuel system is pilot-friendly, there are no pitch changes with flaps or gear… Thisis one refined airplane, and I’m impressed.

maybe idk?

Hi Natik; welcome to the Commander Owners Group.
Orig '72-'73 112s had fiberglass doors, but all hv been changed out in the early '80s. I know of none in service that still hv them. for review, if you happen to look one ck the records.
here's a 337 of what the change out involved. orig fiberglass doors.jpg

Or, it could just need new door seals......

In the past, I have noticed airflow noise ( coming from the door seal overhead ) when I start the takeoff roll, but once the throttle is fully engaged I hear only the engine. I purchased new door seals but I have only installed the baggage door seal so far. The door latches need adjustment occasionally, and there are posts regarding this procedure on the forum.

Also, I had inquired about the inflatable door seals a few years ago from a vendor at Airventure but frugality reared it’s ugly head once again. (I might have been an airline captain in a previous life, hence the frugality).

Noise cancelling headsets - i don't even hear the engine :)

Ditto Moazzam

Yep... I have the Bose A20 and I don't hear mine either.

Btw, is there a way to change my default picture appearance to be a woman? I searched in profile settings and can't find anything.

Yes- in the upper right hand corner click on your username and go to profile - in there you have the ability to edit your avatar.
