New member - 2000 Commander 115 in KLWM

Admins: Can we Zelle or Venmo the 75 bucks?

Yeah I mailed a check and still cannot access most areas.

Stephen - Not sure if our Treasurer has received and processed the check yet but I took care of your account for you.

Well, after quite a lot of searching and thought I’ve got a sales contract on my airplane. The prebuy starts Tuesday and there are no red or yellow flags going into it. A lot of things weighed in on the decision ultimately, and I decided to go with a 2005 SR22 with a full G500 retrofit. It’s a nice looking plane, but it’s no Commander. When I come across one in the ramp I’ll always wonder whether that should have been my airplane. I have to say that I found Davis Hunt, a broker representing a late model West Coast based 115TC to be straight shooting and very responsive; I’d recommend contacting him wholeheartedly to anyone currently in the market. I’d like to thank everyone in these forums that helped answer my questions along the way. This is a terrific group,

Peter good luck and I'm sure you'll love the Cirrus.
A guy at my local field did until he got the bill to "recertify" the Parachute recovery System....

I know right? The ‘chute is due next September and I’m budgeting $25k.

Dang! I'm just a poor boy, but I love hearing how the other 1/2 lives! Keep the stories coming:cool:

Can’t blame you for that …I use to call the Cirrus a “doctor plane” (no insult meant ..just implying people with big budgets who don’t fly much each year)….
Then I sat down and talked to a guy for 3 hours I met randomly at an airport in WI ….who used it like a “truck for work” (his words) ….and loved it. After those 3 hours …and all my questions / his answers / opinions …. I was a changed man…. I believe in a cirrus as a great choice now as well and would almost (I’ll probably get flamed considering I”m on COG :) … almost say it’s a better choice than a commander and at a minimum an equal choice at a minimum .... that has the advantage of a parachute (again…I’m mostly anti-parachute as a need assuming I’m still flying the plane when shit goes south ..but also being older…also at a minimum get it’s.a value for my family at a minimum if I became incapacitated or something) … if you have the budget for it comfortably…I think you made a great choice. One I would make today, if I never owned a commander, and also had the budget for it comfortably to get the cirrus ….SR22 … I’d do the same .. PROBABLY.

That being said ..luckily I don’t have to make that choice/don’t have the budget …. so I’m NEVER buying any other single to replace my commander …. because I don’t think you could do any better than a commander even with an extra $100 grand on the typical “nice” commander price …without going to the $200-$300 bump you need to get an older cirrus sr22 :)

So like everyone else, I’m sad you won’t be joining this awesome group of people … but you can make it up to us by next time you see a commander on a ramp…come introduce yourself!!!

Don’t be a stranger, just cause you bought “the other” great 4 seat single :)

Phil

Nice write-up and I don't necessarily fault them as not being a good airplane. I have two issues with them- number 1 is any minor damage and the plane has to go back to the factory. There is no such thing as Fields repairs, on any of the surfaces. Number two is at least to me. They look like flying potatoes as in f****** ugly
