New member - 2000 Commander 115 in KLWM

Futches

New member
Greetings all - glad to be joining the group as a new member. Currently working through the purchase of a nice 115 that (assuming all goes well) I’ll be basing Lawrence, Massachusetts on the north side of Boston. A bit about me: first career was as a professional pilot, all civilian. After a few years instructing and working my way up the corporate path I ended up flying Gulfstreams and Challengers out of KHPN for a global company. My dream job. I left flying in 2001 and after raising kids and putting them through college I’m now getting back in the saddle for pleasure. I’ve flown very little over the last 20 years, but each time I have the stick and rudder part has been like riding a bike. Got my medical in December and plan to ease back into things with a thorough flight review, instrument proficiency, etc., no rush to do anything. Total time is approaching 4,000 hours with (lapsed) CFI/I and zero time in a Commander. I’m buying one because I’ve ever since I was an instructor at KBDR in the early 1990s this was the airplane I always wanted. I’ve got insurance lined up (boy has that been an education in current market dynamics) and I’ve connected with Judi at Suncoast…what a treasure she is to this group. I’d welcome any introductions/recommendations for flight instructors in the Boston area that can work with me on a proficiency program, so thanks in advance. In the meantime I’ll be digging through these threads for all the great info I’m sure to find on every upcoming stage of my new ownership adventure. - Peter

Welcome to the group!

Sounds like you have a tremendous start and have a solid plan!

Paul Beaulieu at Avier (KBVY) has Commander experience. I'm up at NH69, and another 115 just moved to Nashua recently. We could form a gang.

Congratulations and welcome. Totally understand that the commander was the airplane you always wanted. That was my feeling as well.

Welcome Futches. You’re in good company. Our esteemed President is Lawrence based I believe. And we could always use some COG volunteers as you learn about the fleet. :)

Welcome from another LWM Commander resident. The CFII I work with at Lawrence is Kurt Hellauer <kurt.hellauer@att.net>, 339-234-2391. A good guy and very active in the Wings program if you are interested in that.

Welcome to the group!

It’s been a while since my initial post…sadly the 115 I was looking at didn’t work out. Life got in the way for a while and now I’m back in the market looking. There are very few 114B/115s on the market at the moment but I’m not in a rush.

Judi Anderson. That's really the only resource you need to find a good 114B or 115.

Well....and some money.

N6024N is listed for sale. Pretty similar to mine. Looks like a really nice ride. Probably worth checking out if the time is right.

Don’t give up on your commander plans! Bought my 112-TC 3 years ago, put 600+ hours on her since, been slowing upgrading her …..and absolutely LOVE THIS Airplane. Like you, it’s the single engine ….that I’ve always wanted from way back 20+ years ago.

Welcome to the group …this place ..and these people are ABSOLUTELY PRICELESS!!!!!

Okay, so it's been a while but I haven't given up. (I spoke with Judi on Thursday so you know I'm serious! :) Reupping my membership and digging back in!
