My husband just purchased his first plane, a Commander 114. We're both student pilots and already feeling the pain of this beautiful machine.

Day 1- our flight instructor bowed out- too much plane for him and ran for the hills.

Literally everyone who has looked at it says it's an amazing airplane but no one has experience in a Commander so now it sit.

Call me sometime. I know some people in the NW that can help you.

Congratulations on aircraft ownership - you'll love it although it is not the best aircraft to train in as it can be somewhat complex. The information in the members only side of this site is critical for ownership and maintenance. There are things that you will find there that your local A&p will have no idea of. Great group of folks that are always willing to help. I suggest that you subscribe to the site. You won't be sorry.

First Congrats on your Commander!

This is a great forum for resources and help. I found my CFI from a recommendation on here and have gained tons more knowledge and info. Follow up with Carl, or others who have recommendations for the NW, there is help available. Commanders are not vastly different than any other high performance/complex single engine plane. They have their quirks and performance characteristics, just like any other ___________(beech, mooney, piper, etc....)

I found a shop on my field that didn't "know" Commanders, but, was willing to listen, learn, reach out to people and receptive to supplemental information from this forum. I have not had a significant challenge with anything being done on my field from my shop so far.

Good luck and stay in touch with us!

You could :

Go to a local flight school and knock out your pvt in a basic Cessna 172, 152 etc.

With your new pvt rating, you could get a CFI who can transition you into hi performance and your new bird.

Trying to combine 1 and 2 - you can get lucky and get a local CFI who can do it - but the chances are slim,

But if you break up 1 and 2 - you can do this.

There is also 3 - Maintaining your Commander which will come on the tails of #2.

Best of luck ..

Thank you! We're very excited. And I just joined the member side, awaiting approval. I look forward to getting to know some folks here.

Thank you! I look forward to learning the ins and outs of this plane and making some new friends along the way.

Yes, that is the correct tail number now. How do I check the temporary registration? We were told it wasn't due until the end of February so I thought I had another week before I needed to start stressing on this...
