I Just brought N1301J from KVNY across US to KGGE, its new home. Previous owner, Mike Zimmering was great help, flying three legs with me that got me all the way to KLIT. Two legs home by myself. I'm having an issue with MP exceeding 28 on takeoff. I'm having to pull throttle back to keep it within limits. Mike said I might not be getting turbo all the way open, but I have rotated counterclockwise to the full stop. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong, or could the wastegate be sticking? Thanks for any help.

Hi Bob.

I have exceeded red line before with no turbo active on TOs. I just consider it a gift :)

I have read that the engine can take 30" without issue so I do not get too concerned.

If your plumbing is like mine, you can look on the right side and down to the front and see if the waste gate is opening all the way.

Congrats on the Hot Shot. They are a great addition to the 112.

That's perfectly normal. Shows everything is working as it should. You can reduce the turbo a little if you wanted, but I take off every time with more than 28 inches and maintain that through most of the early climb. As was said already, it's designed to handle it.

Bob.

The unofficial rule of thumb for the hotshots is 30" for 3 minutes is fine. and those three minutes will take you a long way. I use 30" for every departure.

Life is a barrel of fun.

Hi Ken. How are you?

You say you bring up the MP to 30" on every departure... do you sit at the end of the runway, hold brakes, and then the bring the turbo up until you get to 30"?

Re: New 112A hotshot owner!

No, I roll and add power.
May use brakes and run up at very high DA airport. To make sure I get enough MP
