Wednesday I got to sit on the porch with a cold beer looking at two Commanders.

The first visiting Commander landed here, it was N48CK, John and Nigel from Guernsey UK getting her ready for the transatlantic crossing.

The first picture shows how eight mechanics move a Commander after replacing the nose gear trunion.

Life is a barrel of fun.

Charlie Kilo is one beautiful Commander. The departure from Grand Oaks almost scared me. Seems like it took a while to get off the ground.

Re: A day I will always remember!

there are 2 ferry pilots in So. FL. one in Pompano, the other in Ft. Lauderdale. typical cost for ferry services $15Kish.

Not cheap.

Re: A day I will always remember!

What kind of route would they take? Up through Canada, Greenland, Norway, Iceland and down?

Re: A day I will always remember!

Re: A day I will always remember!

up and out of Bangor, ME. then Greenland, etc. on down.
with 90 gal. tanks no need to tank-up the back seat.

Re: A day I will always remember!

I have been checking on FlightAware and no movement yet. Due to leave Florida for Maine tomorrow. And then onwards if all checks out. The flight to Maine is a shake down flight to make sure all is well for the crossing. Should be able to follow N48CK all the way.

The ferry pilot is coming over delivering a TBM 900 with the tail number N900EU, no sign of that on FlightAware yet.

I am sure the schedule may change. This is exciting.

Life is a barrel of fun.

Re: A day I will always remember!

CK won't be leaving til Thurs. or Fri. as I understand it. George is still working on a few software updates, and doing some extra stuff for
John and Nigel bef. it leaves us. Happy for them, but sad to see our US fleet diminish more. maybe Ms. Mao will replenish w/more in 2017. :D

Did they get the AC out of the airplane? I remember them saying they would not needing the AC in Europe.

This is so cool.

Re: A day I will always remember!

no/ if they decide to remove it'll be done in Guernsey.

Just out of curiosity, do you know how the costs for 'crate and ship' would compare to the 15Kish to ferry?

Re: A day I will always remember!

Re: A day I will always remember!

I've done them both ways, but I understand, if you can "ferry it", it is cheaper than paying containerization and shipping fees. and disassembly of the aircraft costs on top of that.

Judi

Re: A day I will always remember!

then there is re-assembly fee/on the other end.
here's a quote I had on N96ET to Australia in 2013.
