N1260J, 112A need prop

Re: N1260J, 112A need prop

Still trying to figure out why the nose gear collapsed. I have replaced the detent assembly because the pin was sticking ,it had a slight bend in it. also rotated the actuator rod so the pin has a new place to lock, it had worn a spot on the rod so it ramped up and pushed the detent pin out of position. I don't understand why it would wear that spot, it should be pushed up and out of the way before the rod starts to move. Plus if the rod breaks the springs should hold the scissors in place, that is part of the emergency extension. I have bought new springs for all of the gear and will be installing them this week, maybe the nose gear spring was weak and with that detent pin not holding it allowed the gear to collapse. Or maybe he retracted the gear instead of pulling the mixture, he had just taxed it in to the hanger and was shutting it off.

I recall that if the switches are working properly, you cannot lower the gear while on the ground i.e. the mains have to be hanging and thus pushing in the switches on both mains to get the gear pump to move.

Other will know more but that is what I recall.

Re: N1260J, 112A need prop

I believe if the system is working correctly, the squat switch will prevent the gear from being retracted when on the ground.

Re: N1260J, 112A need prop

I use to own N1075J, anyone know where it is at anymore?

You would not recognize her..
Penn Yann O/H in 2013,new interior in 2015 and finally new Paint in 2017.

Doesn't fly any faster (maybe a half knot due to the "lighter" wallet) but she looks great and fun to fly.

Re: N1260J, 112A need prop

One thing to note - from what I've been told - if you have too much nitrogen in your struts, your squat switch will not function as expected - which could have negative consequences.

You should adjust it when you are at minimum fuel to make sure it does its job.

Wow!! I bet she looks great!!
I bought that airplane from the original one owner. He had bought it new and it had 750 TTSN. It had sat for 12 years and when I first saw it it was covered in so much dust it was hard to tell the color or the condition
I started to clean it up and it was amazing, kind of like time warp. Interior was in great shape along with the paint. It even had full tanks of gas. Took two days to get it ready to ferry and flew it non stop from Chicago to sterling co about 5 hrs. The mechanic there in Chicago thought it should have been parted out because the spar AD was not done. It was actually pretty easy to do, took three days. It took about a month to get it all squared away. flew it for quite a few hrs, I sold it to a guy down in Nevada I think. He had won some big money gambling in reno and brought cash!!
It is a great plane!!

Whoever you are, it would also be helpful if you told COG why the nose gear collapsed. What fixes had not been made?
John P.

My Name is Walter, it actually was a full gear up (pilot error)

Re: n1260j need prop

I'd be interested in buying the bent prop figuring it is cheap. would make a magnificent piece of wall art for the hangar, maybe even my office! If anyone has one, or even a 3-blade that is bent, let me know.

Bent prop, hub and spinner worth $1,000 to shop
you can have it for that amount

The owner before me in MN took care of the AD's and had a GNS 430W along with Stec 30, ALT hold and GPSS.
I literally didn't even pay what those units would have cost to purchase and install.
Next is a 3 blade prop from Carl.
