I was due to fly out of DuPage DPA to go to Valparaiso IN today - 60 miles.. The weather was 2000ish ceilings and 7+miles visibilities all l\along the way with ceilings improving.
Just as I was walking out of the fab DPA airport Jet Center terminal building the edges of the system in the lower Mid West crept in and it started raining. Drops splattered on the ramp and I groaned, it was 33F, and this was definitely a freezing rain situation. For a micro flash, I thought, I could start up fast and beat it out since the sky to the East was not grey; but realized that there's no beating freezing rain so I moved back indoors and waited hoping the sytem edge stayed an edge. Alas that wasn't to be and I watched small icicles form on the bottom of the steel railings exposed to the rain and knew that mother nature rules by science not by wishes.
So I am overnighting hoping that tomorrow brings clearer skies. Anyone else catch the rain or low IFRs of this sytem - Central IL, Iowa & MO were all low IFR for the last 2 days.
