Hey Y'all,

Somehow I'm locked out of the forums. There is a banner across the top saying
  • Access to this forum is only available to paid members of the Commander Owners Group. To join, please click the Join or Renew Now! link in the menu bar at the top of any page.
but I am pretty sure that I am up to date, I just renewed a few month ago???

same happened to me a few months ago Chris...
It seems to be a glitch..I was current as well:rolleyes:

Same thing happened to me a couple of weeks ago. I was locked out and I went ahead and renewed membership and got back in.

Only to find out that I should have had more time left on my previous membership.

Paypal has basically stopped sending IPN notifications reliably and has deprecated that API - They really want sites to use their new system. We ARE using the new system now since the forum upgrade, but the problem is that old subscriptions created prior to the upgrade are still sending notifications on the old IPN channel....which isn't working reliably any longer. Most likely when you upgraded a few months ago, the IPN never hit the forum (That would have been pre-forum-upgrade), and your account was never updated with the new expiration date. It's a real hassle and there's not a ton I can do to deal with it automatically. At the root of it, it's a paypal issue that they don't care to address since the API is deprecated.

So if you know that you're paid up but your account is expired, you can send a message to me or Glenn and we can get you back up to date. HOPEFULLY moving forward this is less of an issue as more and more subscriptions get moved over to the new setup. For now it is a pain though, yes.

Thanks for all the information...I can't find anything in my records on this side at all that a payment was made, so no matter what happened, it didn't go through. I went ahead and renewed again.

What's great is that we get this much help and support so quickly. Thanks, folks.

Ok I guess its my turn -cant access any content.
Didn't get any kind of expiration notice.
Checking my account doesn't show me an expiration date.

Very weird - it won't show me any new posts but if I click on check latest activity It allows me to see things that should be behind the firewall. If it's because my account expired and I don't have an active membership that would mean that anyone who comes to the website and clicks on that link would have access to all of the posts behind the firewall. It not only shows me the headings but it allows me to go anywhere I want.

I will renew but it does trouble me that if non-member comes in and clicks on new posts they will see nothing but if they click on the show recent activity which comes up as a part of that they can get anywhere that they want on the website. Why would they pay for membership

I’m not sure what you’re referring to. Non members most certainly cannot view the protected areas of the site.

If you’re seeing something different I need exact links to content that you think should be hidden so that I can investigate.

The content permissions are the same as they were before the upgrade. Nothing should have changed there. I spent a significant amount of time testing permissions out so I’m surprised that you’ve found something I missed. But for sure if you’ve found some content that’s visible to non members that shouldn’t be, send me the link so I can fix it.

If you’re talking about the fact that you can see the TITLES of members only content, yeah that was done intentionally. This way a non member can be enticed to subscribe by seeing that they’re missing out on members only content. Click one of the links that you think shouldn’t be visible. Can you actually read the content? If not, nothing is exposed and it’s working correctly. If you can, send me the link so I can see what’s going on.

No it wasn't just titles I could actually get into the threads. I guess the best way to do it would be just log out so you're not in as a member click on new posts and a message pops up telling you that you are not approved to view this I don't remember the exact verbiage but as a part of that it says something about see recent posts.
I clicked on that and was able to get into all of the content that is behind the firewall. I'll see if I can reproduce it and send you screenshots.

Had to log back into send this to you but other than that I can get into the thread. Notice that this shows that I'm logged out but all of these threads are available to me.1000065412.webp

I believe that all of those threads you’re showing are posted in the public areas of the site, so it would make perfect sense that you can see them even while logged out.
