This was a fun one. 57B, Iselsboro Maine. One of the larger islands of the hundreds along the Maine coastline. It's a beautiful flight up the coast at about 1500'. An hour from Boston if you hurry.

Islesboro is also called Dark Harbor. It's been a resort community for over 100 years although I understand there are a few hundred hearty souls who brave the winter. Very non-commercial with very few shops. There's ferry service to the mainland but a very nice little runway. No fuel/services but Wiscasset is just a short hop.

I understand there are plenty of rentals and you can still purchase direct oceanfront property.

The runway in the pic is in the middle. I was circling out over the water then in to land 19.

Glenn

very cool shot - my girlfriend is from Maine (now in Woodstock Vt) & she often speaks of these great little islands up the coast of Maine, guess I never thought you could land on one

Re: Islesboro

Nice find Glenn. Maybe the ladies want to do that for the NECOG gaggle, WX permitting of course! :D

I think I can see Mt. Cadillac in the distance. Now, Bar Harbour, that would be the ladies first choice over the quiet island, I am sure. I landed at 57B before, quiet, very quiet. And also Belfast a few miles up the road on the mainland, brand new runway in the middle of nowhere. Word was that both airports were rebuilt by the MBNA founder who was from that area. MBNA had a bunch of credit card operations offices in Camden and Belfast (wich otherwise is a quite economically depressed area, like most of Maine nonetheless) in 2006 before they got aquired by BOFA.

Re: Islesboro

I hear Walter Cronkite has a place on Islesboro. Only two planes there when I stopped in. A nice Malibu and a Cessna RG.

Good clams at Red's over in Wiscasset.

Radu - ever stopped into Stonington? I was going to hop over to that island but was running short on time. I also saw Banks (ME5) which is 1500' and gravel - I thought I'd leave that one for Sven.

Re: Islesboro

Never been to Stonington, but looks good to me, we should land and claim it. 1500' gravel, hmmm, with a very brisk headwind at 50F, maybe.
