Just testing the waters.

It looks like our friends in the USA meet up at fly-ins on a regular basis and with the annual COG meeting in Texas next week, I suspect not many European members are attending.

There a fewer COG members on this side of the Atlantic so It doesn't have to be on the scale of the US events but we could do lunches or weekends.

From reading the threads, it looks like the US members get a lot out of their fly-ins and with an ageing fleet in Europe and a distant support network in the US we need to keep our own network talking.

You may want to register your interest in this thread and if there is enough support we can organise something.

Lawrence,

If you have it between December 16th and Christmas, count me in.

Re: Is there interest in a European Fly-In.

Ken,

Whatever happens with the fly-in, I did offer you a ride in a commander at White Waltham. Even though I have moved to Blackbushe, I am still a member there. If we don't get organised while you are here, give me a call and I'll buy you lunch.

Re: Is there interest in a European Fly-In.

Count me in too. For what it's worth we flew eight Commanders to Morocco this May, all under the watchful of Mike Perry. I must get around to posting the photos..

Re: Is there interest in a European Fly-In.

Keith,

Look forward to seeing the pictures, I guess this one was organised before I bought my Commander. Is there a regular Fly-in or in that case Fly-out organised on this side of the Atlantic? I must confess I rarely go into the old message board.
As well as the "Summer Holiday" type of event, I was hoping that there could be some more informal meetings along the lines of the "Meet for lunch in...." the US members put together at fairly short notice. The flying club at WW does this every Friday afternoon, for those with no boss and Saturday Brunch flyouts for the rest of us. Unfortunately trailing a line of Cubs and Tiger Moths behind the odd Warrior means they never venture far enough to make it worthwhile getting the Commander out.

Re: Is there interest in a European Fly-In.

Hi Guys

Yes from my side -- but we tried it a few years ago Ian (name escapes me) organised lunch in L2K and got a good response a few years back, next year a weekend in Guernsey went well, I then organised a weekend in Texel which was defeated by the weather never the less we got 1/2 doz or so aircraft and had a good time.

Since then no one has stepped up to the plate, save for Mike Perry with his select fly outs, we had some great times in Tunisia 06, Dordogne 07 , and Morocco 08.

I also fly with a bunch calling themselves "Intrepid Aviators" a right mixed bag from Commanders through Pitts to microlights. Last year went around Germany this year Ibiza. Nothing to stop a few more Commanders joining us , next year its Poland!

Hi Keith hows island life ?

Ken if your around at Christmas call me the ale in the Bears Paws still good.

Fly safe

Re: Is there interest in a European Fly-In.

OK Everyone, lets recap.....

It looks like there is a long distance fly-out being organised at least once a year which we could attend. It also looks like there is a bit of interest in the shorter, more last minute meet-ups as per the USA members.

However, of the half dozen or so people who have responded about 50% are somewhere along the process of new engines, resprays or annuals at the moment or in the near future.

May I suggest that we pick this up in the new year with a planned fly-in on a weekend lunchtime perhaps somewhere in the UK in January/February. We can use it as an oportunity to meet and plan something a bit more adventurous.

If you have any suggestions for location please post them. I suggest that we go to Sywell when the new tarmac runway opens (1000m). Nice Art Deco hotel and restaurant there.

I'll look forward to reading your ideas.

Re: Is there interest in a European Fly-In.

I am one of those that is having the respray and re-trim at the moment so your idea sounds like a good one Lawrence.

Sywell is fine for Jackie and me, not been there so that's always good.

Re: Is there interest in a European Fly-In.

John

Did you go with Colton?

I'm dropping mine off there on Monday for its respray, annual, Mode S, carpets and glass.

The thinking on Sywell is its central location to those who replied, however there is also a few things to do there, on the historic aircraft side, museum etc, plus a nice restaurant.

Re: Is there interest in a European Fly-In.

Lawrence,
Yes they started my plane on Monday, its a re-spray and total re-upholster.
Really looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

They certainly seem to keep busy.

Sywell is fine by me, I here its a nice place although I have never been there.
If we get a chance to all have a chat and discuss what we can do in the future then it will have been worth the visit.

Re: Is there interest in a European Fly-In.

No Sven, its a full bare metal strip, re-prime and then re-spray.

John

It will be interesting to see how yours looks one week into the project.

I still haven't settled on a paint design and the more I think about it the less certain I am. After all, we're going to be stuck with these designs for a long time. What did you go with?

Re: Is there interest in a European Fly-In.

Lawrence,

I may be driving over there at the end of next week to have a look when its been stripped to bare metal. I assume they have spent this week stripping everything down.

I have gone for a typically standard paint scheme, white / Dark Metalic blue and grey leather interior. Basically because it was the scheme that I first saw a Commander in and new I had to have one!

If you get a glance of mine on Monday then let me know how they are getting on.

I see from your profile you are in Glasgow. Do you base yor commander there or are you at Cumbernauld?
