Invasion at Michigan Airports

Re: Invasion at Michigan Airports

I'd like to go John Deere for my next sub compact tractor, but dealers will just not discount, and my Local kubota dealer will give me a great cash price. Would like to buy American (Have a one man boycott going against their cars while they are killing whales and Dolphins), but I can save almost 5 AMU's, that's not insignificant.

Go to the Deere website and sign up for sale and special notifications. I did get a nice discount and 0% for 48 months. Uhhhh ... It seems you must be kidding about the whale and dolphin boycott in regard to American cars, but I must be dense today, I am not getting it!

Re: Invasion at Michigan Airports

Your Right Rob, I still have a bit of trouble with the English language from time to time :)

Re: Invasion at Michigan Airports

ahhhh ... sorry ... read that wrong! I have this friend who is a surgeon ... drives multiple foreign high-end vehicles, none built here. I asked him just how many of the folks building those cars are likely to come to him for surgery? He did not appreciate that. Besides, hell, he could have a new Corvette ... a new Viper ... a Ford Raptor truck ... plus a top end Caddy and Lincoln cruiser ... oh and that new mega-hot Caddy coupe, I forget the name but I think it is 580 hp ... he could have ALL those for less than his three Euro-jobs. There was a time, not long ago, that the US auto industry needed the major but-kickin'. They got it, and have responded in spades. We almost lost the auto industry and now it is back and just smokin'... and the $10 Billion the government invested in GM, net, they actually got better than a 10 to 1 return on, when you add in taxes recovered and welfare not spent. Incredible outcome. This time, it worked. Celebrate.

Weren't we originally talkin' Owl's ???

Re: Invasion at Michigan Airports

Yeah, sorry. I get so tired of people ripping on Detroit. It is a genuinely exciting place to be these days.

Re: Invasion at Michigan Airports

Just bought a new 2014 Chevy Impala - nothing like the junk in the rental fleets! A darned impressive car. And it is white - same color as he owls (threaded-related content). ;)

Re: Invasion at Michigan Airports

The good folks in Detroit thank you. That is, indeed, a fantastic car.

Re: Invasion at Michigan Airports

The Viper will always eat an owl....:)

Re: Invasion at Michigan Airports

We Americans have no one to blame but ourselves for the rise of (and hopefully the fall of imported cars outselling our great products. In the 80s the Japanese and German manufacturers INSISTED that unless normal Maintenence was performed (implied by them), they would not honor warranties.
The average American, bought a new car, never serviced it, ran it into the ground, some not even changing oil, or used it only in city, never warming it up to operating temperature, like we know we must do for our airplane engine s health, then complained they were crap.

The buyer of the German or Japanese car serviced it regularly, not just oil, but bearings, lubes, etc. So they went 100-200 k miles.

Now people are more conscious of proper interval services. So now American cars last just as long. Aside from the fact that today most electric al components in any car Are Nippon Densco, global sourcing etc,

Ill drive any of my 60s Americans to California tomorrow, and have brought many back already 40+ yrs old and original drivetrains.

I'm sure W. Edwards Deming would like to have a word with you...

Yes he would, Tyler! I knew the old Doc quite well and had a chance to work with him before he died. I have a picture on my bookcase here with me and Dr. Deming, he with his oxygen tank hose and cannulas draped around his neck. Sherman, I think I have agreed with virtually everything you have ever posted over the years -- except for that one. American's learning to service and care for their cars (as supposedly do the Japanese and Germans) has almost nothing to do with why they today last 5X longer and drive 10X better! But since this is not an airplane discussion, let's battle this one out over beers at the next COG Flly-In, Deal? Tyler, you can referee!

Scott ... the Detroit Guy and CQPF (Certified Quality Process Freaque.)

Re: Invasion at Michigan Airports

Scott, Tyler. Sounds like a fun discussion. Scott, thanks! Be safe!
We all need to be safe. Right now glad its a little warmer. Tomorrow, one month closer to Spring. Maybe.

It's been a month since I dropped 38J off at the paint shop..I'm counting the days until it is ready to be picked up..

Re: Invasion at Michigan Airports

I got home a bit early today and went to the hanger to add fluid to my gear pump (awaiting annual to get the seeping main gear hoses replaced). As I was driving up to the door, I saw a beautiful red tail hawk working on a skunk that someone had run over.

I watched and got a good laugh at the stall/spin accident this bird did not once but three times!

He tried to lift off with the skunk, way over max takeoff weight and a sever aft CG. Around a foot off the ground, the bird leaned left and then head first back into the ground. Then he did it two more times. A take off, a left lean and boom head first into the ground.

After three tries and some time later, he left with only part of the skunk. I guess he will come back for the rest later.

3 in the Green in Selinsgrove, PA (they used to be at KZER). I've seen some of their work before and was really impressed with it.
