Re: Kstp
KSGS was one of my detours on the way to Fort Collins.
There was some sort of fund-raising event going on, so what I gathered was the usual parking ramp was roped off. The only remaining spots were on the tall, unmowed grass. The tie-down hooks on the straps they have would not fit the Commander tie-down rings, so it was a good thing I had my own ropes. However, because of the distance to the rings I had to cobble up a tie down using my ropes and the straps they provided. Being in the grass, make sure you have some help to move the airplane, or as I do now, a battery powered portable tug.
I arrived on a Sat afternoon and not a soul came out to ask me how long I was staying. Someone did drive by in a car and appeared to write down the tail number, but he didn't say a word or acknowledge my presence. Likewise, on Sun morning when I left there was hardly anyone around except for the folks at the event marshaling cars. I taxied to the self-serve and departed shortly afterwards. The self-serve has 100LL and MoGas pumps right next to each other. Choose wisely.
The arrival to KSGS for landing on Runway 16 is a VERY tight fit to the Class D to the north, and the Class B overhead. Apparently the Class D folks are very sensitive to people busting their airspace. Be prepared for a very tight downwind, base, and final turn if the winds are favoring 16.
Since there was nobody there I don't know how they handle rental cars. The hotel nearby (Holiday Inn Express) has a shuttle that I called for, and in the morning I used Uber (the shuttle was busy).
