Re: Hudson River Corridor Flight
Keep your eyes on a swivel at all times. announce according to the procedures, the faa has published procedures that aren't too cumbersome and seem to work well, so be very familiar with them. Don't be afraid to contact LGA tower to take a tour of the east river, they're very helpful, and have asked me several times if I wished to continue up the river past the end of Roosevelt Island. I declined as I wanted just the tour and turned around at the end of the island and headed back down. If you choose the east river tour make absolutley sure you head north on the east side of the river. Before turning around over the end of Roosevelt island, you MUST be over the east river bank (heading northbound, over the right side of the river) before banking left to to turn around. With no wind 30-35 degrees will keep you over the river. 15 or 20 knots of wind or more from the east, then first head to the west of the river bank and turn into the wind. Be aggressive in the turn. Failure to do so will take you over the opposite river bank and close to Buildings. Do it after sunset and you will see a sight that you'll remember for the rest of you're life. Oh, one more thing, get a road map so you can identify the Williamsburg bridge ( the willie b as it's known by) and the brooklyn bridge. In the old days they were announcement points by the choppers, good to know for position awareness. Be prepared to have a great time!!!!!
