How lucky I am to have found The Commander!

So I have to say that my first experience of deciding to buy into an aircraft partnership has been a very worthwhile and rewarding experience in many more ways than I first imagined.

Very quickly into my journey I found a partnership that is superbly well run and is the proud owner of a 1972 Rockwell Aero Commander 112 based in Kitchener (CYKF). Here I sit after a few weeks of learning, reading everything I could find about Commanders, talking the ears off my new partner in the hanger, completing a checkout with an instructor in the plane and today having signed all the legal jazz I sit with a key to a hanger and an airplane and full confidence in the guys I'm partnered with.

It will be a treat in the years to come to learn more about ownership, its ups and its downs, along with learning about the beautiful Commander that I now have the privilege of sharing with Tony and Rob. Thanks for letting me be a part of CFFOMs family and by proxy of that connecting with fellow aviators in the Commander Owners Group. I can see already the wealth of knowledge and experience here in these forums and the sharing that goes on to encourage the next crowd of folks, like me, to be inspired to learn about these fantastic planes.

Blue skies and greasy landings!

Hi fellow Commander owners. Pleased to welcome our new partner Rod to C-FFOM. Our founding partner Jim Kisses whom many of you may remember has moved on finding his aviation pleasure Captaining an A320 leaving us down at the low flight levels.

It has taken us some time and due diligence to find the right partner and we are pleased to have Rod join us.

Welcome to 'Commander Land' Rod..... !

Re: How lucky I am to have found The Commander!

Very cool. Welcome sir

Re: How lucky I am to have found The Commander!

Welcome Rod! Will you be able to join us in Colorado next month for our annual fly-in?

Re: How lucky I am to have found The Commander!

Hi gmores! Sadly no vacation time slotted in for those dates and I will be no doubt flying locally and getting familiar with our plane. Next year I will look out for the fly-in dates and see if I can make it. Would be a great experience and looks like a cool location for an intro to mountain flying.

Great that you are now a partner owner of a Commander Rod. Welcome to the group. I know Tony enough to state that you have a high standards partner.

All the best,
Pete

Yes Tony has been great his care and attention to the plane shows! Thanks Pete!

Welcome and Congrats. More Canucks is generally a good thing, even though you are probably a Leafs fan. Kitchener is an excellent airport. Love the customs service there ... like *bleep**bleep**bleep**bleep* through a Canadian goose!

BTW ... if any of your group there ever want to attend a game in the ridiculously-amazing new Redwings arena, drop me a line. We have 2 season tickets and usually sell about half of them. If it's just one of you, I will go with you. If there are two of you, then you can deal me out of both of them. If there are more, we know guys sitting around us and can get more tickets.

N4843W.... Thanks for the warm welcome! I'd love to hit a game with you some day. I have seats at the Hamilton Tiger Cats... NFL it isn't but if your ever here and need to kill an evening with something fun it's available any time north of the border for you guys! Kitchener is a great airport. I've only just started flying there. Done touch and goes many times during flight training but coming to realize what a great field it is! Very much looking forward to meeting up some day! I'm an implant from England back in 2004 so still learning the Hockey thing! I will understand it eventually!

Hockey is sort of like a combination of Cricket and Rugby on ice, with skates on. Well, if you are drunk it is, which most Canadians are when playing pond hockey! I would be most happy to see the venerable Tiger Cats! Those guys are always busting their collective asses hoping to get back to the big show.

Welcome Rod. Great airplane, and might I add, great partners.

Hey Rod! Welcome to the world of Commanders! You say you live near Brantford? Come on over to York (CPP6) some Friday eve for a Burger. We are there pretty well every Friday. Next week we host George Stewart, the 93 year young father of Peter Stewart who has a Tiger Moth at the field. It will be 75 years to the day that he had his first flight.....in a Tiger Moth. Check him out on google. He has great stories about flying Mosquitos in WW2!

Re: How lucky I am to have found The Commander!

Hi David!

Thanks for the warm welcome. I would love to come down. I can't get there this Friday but if it's regular through the summer I will come by! I actually saw my first Tiger Moth yesterday! Sharing the Hanger with FFOM! Was a real treat!!!

Re: How lucky I am to have found The Commander!

Welcome Rod. Tony is one of our most knowledgeable members. A hands on guy with real commitment to safety, quality logical upgrades and sharing his affection for our favorite Aircraft.

You are probably better served with Tony as a partner to learn from as 'enjoying the Commander' itself.

Re: How lucky I am to have found The Commander!

Thanks Sherman... Tony was in no small measure a reason I joined this partnership. He has already expedited my learning curve regarding ownership in general as well as this wonderful plane. I'm soaking up as much as I am able. It's a great group to be associated with. I few short months ago I had never heard of the Commander. I'm now learning as much as I can. I did the checkout with an approved instructor who was a lot of fun and just the other day logged my first 2.1 Solo!! A real treat for me and as I approached CYFD in the circuit a good friend of mine was just taking off on his first solo in a club 172! This aviation hobby we are all involved in gives us so many blessings. I only started my PPL in 2014 and in just a few short years here I am feeling like there's a few lifetimes worth of stuff to learn! It's a privilege to be doing that with such a group of committed individuals and teams around Commanders! Cheers!
