Hi! New member. Non-Commander owner, but that may change. I currently fly a C182 in a club situation, but the club is having some 'issues' that may result in dissolution of the club. Remains to be seen.

That said, I am REALLY interested in the Commander 114. Love the looks and just about everything else about it. I will *try* to search the forums before I ask 'those' questions.

And, if there are any Commander owners in the DFW area that would allow me to crawl around in your airplane a bit and pick your brain, I would be appreciative. Ill trade ya a ride in a hot 182!

Re: Hi from Texas

Welcome JC. We're not that bad about using the search, lol.

Lots of Texas owners and we're just getting into prime flying season down your way.

Re: Hi from Texas

John,

Neal Clayton is a Fabulous extremely NICE 114TC owner and a Dear Friend of mine, his 114TC is just a few serial numbers below mine. He is in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, in fact I believe he is based out of Addison airport. His COG handle is RNC Please hit him up and I'm certain he will be more than willing to take you for a ride, a spin, a loop and a full Bob Hoover replicate ride in his 114TC for ya.

Neal reach out to this guy for us and at the same time if you'll let me know what day ya'll have arranged to meet heck I may even come that way and allow him to see 2 great 114TC's.

Good Luck John, I can say with Confidence you have absolutely come to the right place for the right & perfect GA airplane.

Re: Hi from Texas

Hey John, quite a few of us down the road at Addison and McKinney.

Feel free to shoot me a PM, I'd be happy to take you for a ride in mine sometime.

Re: Hi from Texas

Hi Guys,
I am Sunny Lowe, a new member, and looking to own a 112 of some type in the next 6 months.
My real problem is I have never been in or near a commander. At my size (6 foot, 220lbs) the extra arm room over the Mooneys I have been considering, looks great, but I would love to see one up close.
I am located in South Fort Worth, near Spinks Airport (KFWS), nearly done with my IFR (checkride in progress as of Nov 2016) and lots of time in P28R Arrows.
Who should I know? Who is local? What are the differences in owning an Arrow or a Mooney vs a Commander?
I am also looking for a partner who would not mind flying out of Spinks, if possible

Re: Hi from Texas

Re: Hi from Texas

That would be fantastic!! Have him give me a call!!
As I review the products, I am probably looking for a TC or a TCA, but who knows?

Re: Hi from Texas

oops/ haven't lived there for over 10 yrs. had a brain fade moment. it is Hicks T67. Airplane apparently de-commissioned. I'll see what the status is/ might be a problem now?

Re: Hi from Texas

There is Marvin with a 112 at TKI, not sure of any other 112s nearby.

Re: Hi from Texas

Marvin owns a '77 112TCA, N4625W/lives in Plano. he had considered moving up to a 115 a few yrs. ago.

Re: Hi from Texas

Plano is only an hour away. Not a bad drive, or even a flight in one of the planes I rent regularly.
I really just want to get near, around and inside some of the 112 series of airplanes, so I have a feel for the aircraft I want.
Any people you can point me to in the metroplex would be great. (that is what they call all the cities around Dallas and Fort Worth, in case that is a new term for anyone.)

Re: Hi from Texas

Sunny; that should be easy. there are 20 Commanders in and around Dallas/Ft Worth. ranging fm 112s, Hot Shots, to TCs to newer model 114B/TCs. somebody will chime in for you. :)

Re: Hi from Texas

Sunny,

Ive only owned a couple Cessnas (172 & 182) and my 114 (for 4 years now), so i cant speak to things about ownership of Pipers or Mooneys but I have flown several models of Mooneys and a few Pipers and I can tell you there is no comparison as far as Im concerned in terms of comfort and ride. Aside from the obvious things like much larger cabin and two doors, the Commander rides much better I feel especially in turbulence, very stable for IFR flying (stable, hands off, trims well, etc), it makes even someone like me look good on landings from the trailing link gear, and has much ramp appeal. Id have to say Mooney has us on speed, but at least when you get where you're going in a Commander your back doesnt hurt and you arent stiff.

Im not a big guy like you but I have had a very bad back (up until June when i finally had surgery on it) and I have flown some 8 hour block days in my 114 and I honestly wasnt hurting at all. I fly a 737 for my job and after about an hour and a half I was in pain in that.

The 112 has a bit lower useful load than the 114s but if that fits your mission, Id say go for it. The owners group is amazing and you'll be shocked at the knowledge of the fleet and rapid responses you'll get on here.

I would get a hold of Judi Anderson at Suncoast Aviation. She is by far the most knowledgeable person about our fleet and airplane history around.

Good luck and welcome to the group,
Tim

Re: Hi from Texas

I texted Marvin, not sure how busy he is, he works at Texas Instruments and is in/out of the country lately for business purposes.

Will let you know if I hear back from him, Sunny.

Re: Hi from Texas

Sunny,

I am in Hamilton at MNZ and have a 112. If you want to drive (about an hour and half from Crowley) or fly down, you can see and we'll go up if you want.

Re: Hi from Texas

OK DFW folks. I am looking to find a friend who could introduce me to the 112. Anybody game?

Re: Hi from Texas

JC - you will find the Commander Owner Group welcoming and very helpful. My Commander 114 or N314CT, is located in Arlington, KGKY and would be happy to show off all the advantages of the Commander. Chip May Send me or contact Judi Anderson at Suncoast Aviation through her web site and we can connect.
