Thanks Carl. I should be getting my plane back mid-week next week. Finally getting around to installing those main gear landing lights you sold me last year. Time for some flap gap seals…I feel the need for speed…LOL.

Nice work! Just fyi the white base has a thick jell coat that can be polished to a shiny finish. If you ever get a wild hair, and want to blow an hour or so in your hanger

I did the same upgrade with Carl's kit.
Unfortunately the base plate was too narrow for a push through mounting of a WAT Orion 550.
So I redesigned the base plate and 3D printed it.
Here is the result.

Carl, what we really need from your kit is the wafer-thin glass dome.
I always thought the plexiglass dome was thicker until I bought it from you. It is extremely thin and soft.
Now I think it's a good thing because it's variable. I couldn't do anything with your Expoy base plate, it just didn't fit the WAT Orion 550.
I also wanted to keep the old position light with new LEDs. All attempts at adaptation made them unusable. It's to narrow.
That's why I designed a new base plate that your glass dome fits on.
The STL files should be in the hangar. Everyone can adapt it to his own wishes.

Sorry you were so disappointed.
I know many people have managed to fit their Orion 550 into it without any difficulties. As you can see from the picture, I even managed to fit my uAvionx tail beacon into mine.
I did do a run with a thicker material, but found it to be unnecessary. The lens isn't subjected to any harsh forces or abuse where it's located. The unprotected strobes, beacons, and identifier lights are far more delicate than the material I use to make the Stinger lens.

Carl, I'm not disappointed - you got me wrong. I really like all your smart products. I don't want a refund either

For the Stinger Lens there are two ways to mount the lamps:
1.) on the new base plate or
2.) you leave the lamps in the old position on the tail cone and slide the new base plate over it.
I chosed variant 2 because it reduces the height of the lamps in the dome.
In this case you have to make a cutout that fits the entire width of the lamps.
And that's exactly what becomes very tight with the Orion 550.
That doesn't look good, does it?
As already mentioned, I designed a slightly wider base plate with the needed cutouts already in.
Thanks to your extremely flexible and soft dome, everything fits perfectly.
To say it again: I'm not disappointed.
The Stinger Lens is a great product and the centerpiece is the plexiglass shell.
If the base plate doesn't fit, that's no problem. Any of us who know a little about 3D design and printing can help.
