Hey, who chopped off the back of my airplane!?

Re: Hey, who chopped off the back of my airplane!?

Michael - very clever.

I've also seen people use paint-on mirror finish. Needs several coats but turns out quite nice.

Really nice work Carl. Do you think that the TailBeacon will fit? I’m thinking that it’s a neat solution for ADS-B OUT. I see that uVionix is working on a 1090 version, which would be helpful for Canadians.

I believe it will. The unit could be mounted on the stinger and the base could be cut out around it, if a little bit more clearance is needed. The clearance if mounted on the base is 2". If you mount it to the stinger and cut the base around it it's 2-3/8".

Hear is the tail installed and operating. I am quite happy with it.

Tail light lens (RCM)

Tail light lens (RCM)

Been meaning to post on this for a while. As I upgraded the old Aeroflash strobes to Orion LEDs on wings and tail, I needed to clean up the cutouts on the stinger so it was timely and convenient that Carl produced his stinger lens assembly, which not only has the clear bubble but also a new base that covers over the old holes on the stinger. Overall about a 2-3 beer project...nice quality piece of kit from Carl!

The lens base is made from robust and neatly fabricated fiberglass.

Really dig that green paint scheme. Your prop looks like it has been shredded lol

Carl,
Sent this msg a week ago. Need info.

"Carl,
I have ordered the uAvionics ADS-B out tail unit which is to be approved in March. I need the dimensions of the new cover for the tail light. I want to see if it is possible to install this unit within the cover given there is a mount to the tail cone and the cover is attached to that.
Thanks

Re: Hey, who chopped off the back of my airplane!?

Afternoon Carl,

Just thinking ahead, do you think you should order a supply of clear lens for if/when ours start to fade or yellow? I'd be interested in having a backup.

You were right, doing the walk around this weekend and couldn't imagine the light cover not being installed . . . still can't find that + 5 knots though . . .

best,
John

I'm meeting with the guy that formed them next week to talk about the lenses for my new wing tips, so I'll ask him about that too. I have the molds, so can always have them made. How much is always the nagging issue

I just sold my last Stinger Lens kit. They haven't been a best seller - not sure why - it really finishes the plane off - imho. Anyway, thinking about doing another run of them, if anyone's interested.

Hi Glenn! All well, except Tornado took roof off my & row of 60 yr old hangers. TG no plane damage, but now on 6th truck bedhead of 'tools, parts, supplies, kitchen appliances, chairs, magazines, File cabinets of records, project Jensen GT car etc. Amazing how much stuff one accumulates in 12 yrs.

N112HT is also Good, I am '90 day current, but hate being on tiedown. No other hangers available anywhere. Just swamped with Houses, car maintenance projects, & this hanger thing has really impacted 'Planned/Scheduled Projects'.

Did pge 36 Packard to HWY - on Static Display with BiPlanes for 'Women Can Fly' Event.

Seem to have been locked out for awhile. Thought I was good thru August.

Thanks for the note & our BEST to you & Heather!
Sherman
