Hey, who chopped off the back of my airplane!?

Re: Hey, who chopped off the back of my airplane!?

I'll take one kit. Where do I sign up!

Re: Hey, who chopped off the back of my airplane!?

Hello Carl,

I, too, will take a kit for my 114B, S/N 14647. Thank you.

Re: Hey, who chopped off the back of my airplane!?

I was in Camarillo on Monday talking to the mfg of the lenses. There is going to be a delay, so I wont be able to ship until I get back from Europe. They should be finished around the time I leave but I just don't have time to do it. I return on the 10th of July.

The delay was caused because we decided to make 3 more molds, so we can make 4 parts at once. Our original plan was to make them 1 at a time, but this wastes a lot of material, and takes more labor time. With such small quantities (just around 15 interested parties) it's a balancing act trying to make economic sense of a project like this.

Thanks for hanging in there with me.

Add me to the list if it is not too late. I’m going to upgrade my nav/position lights to Whelen Orion LED and it would be a nice finishing touch! Thanks!

Re: Hey, who chopped off the back of my airplane!?

Will, you will like the Orions. We did the wing tips and stinger and they are fantastic.

Re: Hey, who chopped off the back of my airplane!?

Is the part available now? It looks like a nice upgrade to my 114.

Re: Hey, who chopped off the back of my airplane!?

Got the first 5 parts today. Will have more next week. I'm going to try to ship them out in the order in which I received payment.

The first 4 still have a protective film on them. That's why they look a little foggy.

count me in

Re: Hey, who chopped off the back of my airplane!?

I love it when a plan comes together!

I finished shipping to everyone that placed an order for these, and supported me in this effort. Sorry again for all the delays, but it's way harder to do things like this in small quantities than it is to do them in large quantities. It took a lot of begging to get this done!

If anyone else is interested, I'll have more ready to ship next week. You can call, email, or go here: https://rcmnormalizing.com/owner-assist

Re: Hey, who chopped off the back of my airplane!?

Interesting add on that is reasonably priced.
Could present a problem for anyone contemplating an externally mounted ADSB like the uAvionix tail beacon.

The pictures I've seen of that product look to big to fit on the tail of our planes anyway. Anything that fits on the tail of our planes should fit under the lens.

Re: Hey, who chopped off the back of my airplane!?

The tail marker is what about 1" in dia. Looks like the plastic antenna of the uAvionix unit extends about 1/2 " up / down. I'll check tomorrow but I think there is plenty of room between the marker and strobe lens.

Surprising that a product like uAvionix is able to receive and transmit through a plastic lens and still be considered certified.
If that is the case they should take the small fin and attach it to something in the cabin like the back of the compass on the glare shield.
No drag
No exposure
Less chance of damage

Re: Hey, who chopped off the back of my airplane!?

Fred - as the blades are the antenna and need to be outside the airframe, probably it wouldn't work correctly under plastic.

The small blades of the antenna aren't too visually objectionable.

Hey Glenn:

Took some quick measurements today. My position light is on top. It's about 1 1/2" in dia. The strobe lens is about 1 1/4" in dia. There is about 1 1/2" between the two lenses. Will need to get specs from uAvionix but looks like it should fit. Worst case scenario may be to invert it.

I found a dimensional drawing Joe. - take a look.

I wonder if our strobe operating right beneath it would create an interference issue? Most transmit antenna's have a "clear space" installation requirement. k

I stole a page from someone else's playbook, I used chrome tape instead due to the angles.

Michael - you say Chrome Tape, do you mean the Aluminum Metal Tape, like sold at most Usual Supply stores in the 'Aviation Support Shelves', sometimes adjacent the Duck or Duct Tape?

Superb detailing job!
