I am a new member here. I have been reading about Commanders for about 2 years and seen everything that is on youtube. Specifically I have been looking at 112’s. My mission would be 2 people (no more than 300 lb.) and full tanks plus some bags.
In the previous two years I read everything from: “ you better make sure you have 5000 ft of runway in front of you if you are at gross weight” to “ not true, 112 can take off on grass strip quite well”.Like the previous post suggested, it would make the decision a lot easier if there was a possibility to join somebody for a short ride. I live outside of Charlotte NC and I will travel anywhere with in a reason to accomplish this. Thank you in advance.

Welcome! A 112 for 2 people, a couple of bags, and full fuel is spot on. That would put you at about the 2650 gross. The 112 is balanced really nicely so even with the same load and minimum fuel, you can't really get out of the center of gravity.

And yes, high density altitudes hurt performance as you'd expect, although it's much worse in the mountains so generally those flyers are better off looking at a turbonormalized Hot Shot or one of the straight-turbo 112s.

I'm on the east coast near Boston so only have some moderate sized mountains to deal with occasionally and fly alone 95% of the time, so a normally aspirated 112 suits me very well.

Hopefully one of the owners in your area will chime in soon and get you out for some flying.

T, I'm in the Knoxville area if your out this way. Be happy to take you up.

Hello David,
used to pass through Knoxville on business quite a lot some years back, but not any more. If I find myself in your neck of the woods I will definitely reach out to you.
Thanks,
T.
