Heading for Salem Oregon

Re: Heading for Salem Oregon

Well Michael did you make it?
A bunch of us from Pearson landed at Newport (KONP) took courtesy van for lunch and ate at Mo's Seafood restaurant and it was outstanding. The clam chowder is unreal!!! Been awhile since I have been there and the downtown area is kind of fun also - it is right on the bay.

If you get a chance it is worth the trip and is a very short hop from Salem. You might call ahead to get the airport courtesy cars/van.

Not yet. Delayed because of thunderstorms in route. Clear this morning, so heading out early. Stayed on Logan UT for the night.

Great picture!

Re: Heading for Salem Oregon

Logan great place and it is about 4 hours from Pearson so should be less to Salem.
If you want a pit stop enroute you might check out Bend, OR as it has some cheaper fuel as the 2 outfits that sell gas try to outdo each other.

Re: Heading for Salem Oregon

It was 4.2 hrs. for me. Left at 6am nonstop and good thing. Weather moved in on Salem 30 min before I got there. Just made it in.

Yep, I tinted them right after I got the plane. Works well with the glare and heat.

Re: Heading for Salem Oregon

I was kind of wondering as it was raining here. Glad everything worked out ok.

Re: Heading for Salem Oregon

Flew south a little and found a hole to get under the cloud layer. Forflight and stratus was great. Could tell the cealing over a couple airports were and the ceiling over Salem. Flew over towards Corvalis as it was just broken. Descended then flew back to Salem. Plus I heard other pilots taking off from Salem, and flying south to get out.

Anyway, now that I'm here we need to set up a time to meet and eat.. :)

Re: Heading for Salem Oregon

Well as it turns out the work on my airplane did start but a couple ordered items have not come in and the WX is going to be a little flakey the next couple of days. Friday through a lot of next week is going to be awesome WX.
Will see how much progress is done in next couple of days.

Re: Heading for Salem Oregon

Sat or Sun will be my last chance to fly for a few weeks. Sat am works good for me if the wx cooperates.

Tim

Re: Heading for Salem Oregon

Sat ok if the airplane is not all torn apart and I should know around Thursday -
Maybe future arrangements by email might be better. Tim has my email - I will PM you Michael

Re: Heading for Salem Oregon

One last thing. Here is a under 3 min video taking off from Tillamook Oregon Where I picked up my wife's favorite cheeses from the factory. Put the camera on the inside of the step. Sorry no sound, but made a short trip down the Oregon coast before turning to Salem Oregon. the peed is 4 times normal and looks a little jumpy because of the coastal winds. First time video and I am not a very good editor...

Great picture of the three Sisters.

Re: Heading for Salem Oregon

Good t/off performance, you were off prior to 1000'. Not bad!!

Thanks... I go full power on my turn that helps. Another thing that helps a "little" is keep the flaps up until close to take off speed, then go 20% down flaps. About 45Gal of fuel on board and 2 people 420lbs.

Re: Heading for Salem Oregon

I thought that was pretty quick for takeoff. I didn't notice any change in flaps during takeoff though.
