Got out for a bit yesterday afternoon and on the way back from Maine went over Great Bay in NH. Still looking pretty cold out there.

But a nice day to fly. Don't get too many around here in February usually.

Re: Great Bay NH

Joel,Where exactly in AZ was this photo taken? Show Low? It looks like Minnesota, (that is thankfully in my rear view mirror for the next week or so). Maybe retirement in AZ isn’t all it’s cracked up to be? And I was so sure I wanted to go there...

Re: Great Bay NH

Payson I see now that I reread it.

Yes it is in the mountains - BUT this was a snow event that surpassed anything that has been on record since they started to keep records!!
Over 40" in Flagstaff, 32 in Pinetop (in 36 hours) and 6+ feet of snow this week on the mountain at SnowBowl ski resort.

Still nice (if a bit colder this week down in the lowlands) - Mid 70's by latter in the week.

I posted it because most think of AZ as just desert, but we have some great mountains and skiing in the state just a few hours away.

Re: Great Bay NH

AZ is one of the most diverse states in the union. I learned much about it when I lived in Phoenix during a long work project. Quite a fascinating state really.

Shall we discuss this again in the summer when your humidity is 98% an we are at 5% :-) :-):)

Neat!

I'd encourage everyone to once in a while throw up a picture from your last flight. Always fun to see.

Re: Great Bay NH

Thanks

We almost never see this much snow out here at the lower elevations so I went up to take a look at something that will probably not repeat in my lifetime.

Here is another photo.

Re: Great Bay NH

yes, very nice Joel.

Re: Great Bay NH

The high today in Southern California only got up to the mid 60’s but we braved the very very cold temperatures to fly up and see the snow in the local hills around Riverside.

Beautiful Bob. What a great way to spend an afternoon.

And I hear LA has had the coldest February in 60 years. I think we're all looking forward to spring!

Re: Great Bay NH

February flights: Sugarbush Resort, Warren, VT - the view of Sugarbush from our farm property in Waitsfield, VT - Mnt. Washington: a short flight to the east in NH where you can enjoy 'hover' or 'backward' flights by turning into the raging west wind over the mountain, adjust speed, and 'hover' or fly 'backwards'. Fun!

Re: Great Bay NH

Really nice photos.

Re: Great Bay NH

Really nice photos.

Thanks.
Just saw a post that Mnt. Washington recently recorded its highest February wind gust on record: 171 MPH. The weather observation structure up there is built to withstand winds of 300 MPH, and the highest gust ever recorded is 230 MPH. The attending meteorologists go out every hour to get ice off the recording instruments.

Re: Great Bay NH

Must be a dangerous job removing ice in a 230 MPH wind.
