Things are a bit messed up at the farm, got hit by hurricane Michael.

On the bright side I will end up with matching green metal roofs on the house, stables and new hangar.

Tractor shed blew away with four tractors inside, not a scratch on any of them.

Running on generator but expect electricity restored before Christmas.

Life is a barrel of fun.

Re: Grand Oaks hit my hurricane

Ken - Glad YOU OK!

Did the Big Horizontal limbed Grand Oak survive?
And your 'tree House'?

I was wondering how you came out, Ken. On the whole, looks like you did alright. Good news.

Glad everything is ok with you.

Ken,
So sorry to hear. I loved those big Oaks!!

Is the EAA breakfast still on for 16J this Sat??

Re: Grand Oaks hit my hurricane

Glad to hear that everyone is OK.

Re: Grand Oaks hit my hurricane

Glad to hear that you came thru with minimal damage!

Re: Grand Oaks hit my hurricane

Sorry to hear that Ken. I’m sure you’ll have everything repaired shortly. BTW Chris says Hi

Re: Grand Oaks hit my hurricane

Sorry to hear about the damages, Glad to hear that improvements are coming.
Just out of curiosity, did you ever find out what happened to Chainsaw the rooster?

Re: Grand Oaks hit my hurricane

Hi All,

Things are going on fine at Grand Oaks, All the animals are fine, Chainsaw ( the rooster) was so brave that he was trying to get inside the bulldozer where I was taking refuge. It has a very strong cage on it and it is my designated storm shelter. The big oak trees look somewhat thinner when you look up but I am sure they will recover very quickley, Had fruit tress over in the orchard but we have them all replanted now.

I have electricity back on now, I have got so used to wearing a head light that I feel naked without it. All the wood and furniture is removed from the pool, one of my priorities to get the generator running the chlorinater so as not to loose the water quality.
The tree house is damaged, but it needs to come down anyway.

Overall it has been a fun week, once I got situated at home and work I took a generator around my neighbors who were without water. Amazing what can be done with four hours of electricity.

One neighbor about two miles away was very opposed to the landing strip, after drinking a few beers with him Saturday night, while his wife was taking a hot shower,
I am now taking him up in the Commander on Saturday. What electricity will do.

Saturday EAA breakfast is still on in Dawson.

Life is a barrel of fun.

Re: Grand Oaks hit my hurricane

Thanks for the “silver lining” update.

Re: Grand Oaks hit my hurricane

Proud of you Ken!
Let us know if you choose to replace the 'Tree House'. Was a neat feature of your Grand Oak !

FYI-Landing at 16J kinda like landing at 44N-an upslope runway. Camellia took videos of both landings!

Re: Grand Oaks hit my hurricane

Glad you didn't lose many (any?) trees. I owned a historic home in Little Rock and had an original picture of the house from 1910 when the two oaks in the front of the house were planted. Losing one to a lightning strike 100 years later was like losing one of the family...

Re: Grand Oaks hit my hurricane

I get it .. we had a massive wind storm this past summer. We lost a 60' pine tree. I stopped giving our newly planted trees names.

Re: Grand Oaks hit my hurricane

I walked around the house and cut down any pines/maples capable of reaching the house. I am surrounded in the mountains and when winds come through here - ... well .. needless to say I have concluded "when a tree falls in the forest - it makes a big crashing sound .."
