No more bent door hinges, and big smiles everytime you pop the door latch!

STC'd - PMA'd will cover CPAC, Inc. Commander models 112 serial numbers 126 through 499, 112B 500 and subsequent, 112TC 13000 through 13149, 112TCA 13150 through 13249*, 114 14000 through 14349.

This system will also work on model 112 serial numbers 1 through 125 if you have a log book entry showing that your airplane was updated with aluminum entry doors, and you have the approval of a certified A&P.

This system will not work with any of the later 112TCA, 114, 114A or 114B model aircraft or any model with the “push down” style door handles. I am working on another kit for these and expect it to be approved in late 2009.

*The exact serial number at which the change to the “push down” style door handles was made on the 112TCA is unclear.

Also I have begun the approval process for a baggage door gas spring kit, available for all CPAC, Inc. models.

There is three ways to order:

1) Call me: 805-215-2982

2) Email me: carlrobinlee@msn.com

3)Go to www.flyinvacations.com click on accessories and follow prompts

Foreign based Commander owners – please email me so I can figure shipping costs. Also all out of the US orders have to be tagged for export. I currently have 4 tagged for the UK, 1 tagged for Canada, and 1 tagged for Australia.

I hope all of you enjoy having these on your planes as much as I enjoy having them on mine!

Re: Gas Spring Door Stays

Yesterday was a very hot day in Southern Florida with the ATIS at OPF calling the temp 33C. That made me discover another benefit of Carl's new door gas stays.

I left the door open while starting and taxying out. The stays held the door against the prop wash at about the half open position, and a very nice breeze of fresh air circulated throughout the cockpit. Very, very nice. Looks like I will no longer use the Arctic Air cooler... It was actually more comfortable with the door open that it previously was with the cooler

Re: Gas Spring Door Stays

Richard,

I agree and think the gas springs holding the doors open against the prop wash is the best thing about the installation. Its hot and sticky here in Louisiana and having the breeze from the big fan up front blow through the cabin helps dissapate the heat sink although it does mess with my paperwork.
Make me keep the cabin a little tidier though.

Re: Gas Spring Door Stays

As I taxi off the runway I pop the door open and they go to 1/2 way. Perfect for the ride in. As I stop to park they open full.

Priceless.
(But I paid check)

Re: Gas Spring Door Stays

Hi Mick,

I returned your email directly. Did you get it? I can send those to you on Monday.

I'm still working on the baggage door. I thought the FAA was going to give me a break because I have been throught this before, but they have decided to make it just as hard, or harder, than before. I'm trying to get it done before the fly-in. Also working on the late model TCAs 114As and 114Bs.

We dont need no stinking paperwork!

Its a pity you are getting so much greif over baggage door struts.
One would think that a little common sense should prevail but anyway thats pen pushers for you.

Listening to Jim Richards on how the FAA operates, it is amazing that anything gets through. Sad, but it appears to be such a relationship and personality driven process with zero consistency between FAA reps. Have a good relationship with one, you can sail through. Crappy one and they put you through the wringer. One would think some set of standards would apply, but clearly not.

At least my insurance premium didn't go up while in Experimental, but I do have an In Motion deductible until the STC comes through. Not what I was hoping for while in Alaska next month.

Ugh!

Re: Gas Spring Door Stays

Gas door struts are a work of art.
Really a nice easy install.
Self opening doors. Who can beat that !:):D;)

Re: Gas Spring Door Stays

just had mine installed ... very nice!

Re: Gas Spring Door Stays

I'm with John. Waiting on the 114B version. Any hints on a time frame?

Re: Gas Spring Door Stays

Hi Doug, John,

Yes, I spoke with the FAA earlier this week regarding the 114B. I'm trying to get it done by the fly-in in Oct. If not by then, it will be shortly after. I will at least have the prototype there and be able to explain the installation etc.

I'm trying to finish up on the baggage door as well.

The best case scenario would be to have them both done by the fly-in.

Thanks,

Re: Gas Spring Door Stays

The 114B kit will also apply to the 114As' and the later 112TCAs' with the push down style door handles.

Re: Gas Spring Door Stays

The baggage door kit will be the same for all.

Re: Gas Spring Door Stays

I still have some kits tagged for the UK, Australia, and Canada, if anyone is interested. Also, of course the US.
I'm trying to clear out what I have so, I can make another run, and order some extra parts for those of you that requested them.
