Future Commander Owner

Hi everyone. New to the group and thought I'd introduce myself. Looking to buy my first plane and really like the 112TC or the 114 / 114B. I'm based out of Zelienople, PA (KPJC). Any Commander owners in my vicinity that wouldn't mind me taking a look at your baby? I'd at least like to sit in one before I go further.

Welcome Dennis.

Hello and welcome Dennis!
You've done 2 things correct so far.
1. Chosen a GREAT airplane.
2. Joined COG to do your homework.

I would recommend you reach out to Judi @ Suncoast Aviation ( sunco@comcast.net) or on our site here.
(you will see this message repeated by others)

What is your level of flying / ownership experience?

I am based at KMQS in eastern Pa. but am dating a woman (Nancy) from Greensburg :p
(Good to have an airplane!)
I'll reach out before my next trip so we could potentially go for a hop in 96Bravo.
I fly into Palmer (KLBE) to go to Nancy's

Good Luck!

Bill,

That would be fantastic. I belong to a great club at Zelienople (KPJC) and can fly our to Palmer anytime. I'm about 350 hour and instrument rated. Never owned a plane before. I'm also already in touch with Judi. Would love to meet you and your plane next time you're in my area.

You sound like a perfect candidate..do you have any Complex /High Performance / Retract time?
That will be critical when trying to get insurance for your dream plane!

Welcome. The only issue I had was finding someone with commander time to give a check out for 5 hours that my insurance required.

Hi.

112TC based KABE. I am usually out to the Lancaster area for the $200 french fries they serve at the restaurant there
Happy to coordinate something.

Fiorentino's right??
Wednesday night spaghetti for $5.99 yum!

Judi helped me connect with a CFII to train MY instructor (who I put on my policy at no charge)
He only needed 2 hrs / checkride then he did my 5 hrs before my solo at our leisure.
Very cost effective and we did not have the need to try to fly 5hrs in one day!

Yes Fiorentinos. I am in there weekends only.

I think it depends on your ins company and hours/experience.

When i bought my 112TC - i had 300 Hours total, Instrument , HI perf, Complex and 100 hours retract.
USAIG required a 2 hour checkout. Which we did in a day. Judi had connected me with a shop for the pre-buy as well as the CFi.

I flew it home solo with a friend CFII from there just to have 2 pairs of eyes on new systems. He stayed with me till halfway - dropped him off in KY and i continued up to NJ.

Dennis - welcome!

What everyone says about Judi! -- LOL -- While she didn't help me find 42W - she was INSTUMENTAL - in the process. She knew all about 42W's history and with her help and this forum I found a shop that knew Commanders for the pre-buy and an instructor to do the required 5 hours of dual over 2 days. Then I flew her solo back to Denver.

Good luck!

Dean
