Re: Ft Collins - Legs

I said I think I have everyone beat in "7" days.....your trip shows 9 days......

Just kidding, you've definitely got me beat, that's a lot of flying Frank.....and I thought I covered a lot of ground.

My wife loves to fly but about 2 hours out from landing back at home last night she said "Honey I think I've had my feel of flying for a long while now", LOL.:)

Todd,

You moved the goal posts. I had only posted the total straight line distance from KISP to KFNL. My trip wasn't a straight line, so all in I have you beat.

All this is directly from Garmin Pilot's auto-generated logs:

Sat, Sep 9
KISP (Islip, NY) to KTOL (Toledo, OH); 498 nm; 3.5 hrs
KTOL to KSGS (South St. Paul, MN); 457 nm, 3.2 hrs
The second leg included about 80nm of over-water travel, traversing Lake Michigan (8500 ft initially and then 10500 ft).
Overnighted in Minnesota.

Sun, Sep 10
KSGS to KRAP (Rapid City, SD); 478 nm, 3.7 hrs
Spent three days in South Dakota.

Wed, Sep 13
KRAP to KFNL; 242 nm; 1.7 hrs

Sun, Sep 17
KFNL to KAWM (Ames, IA); 536 nm; 3.7 hrs
KAWM to KYNG (Youngstown, OH); 601 nm; 3.9 hrs
Overnighted in Youngstown

Mon, Sep 18
KYNG to KPOU (Poughkeepsie, NY); 326 nm; 2.4 hrs
KPOU to KISP; 64 nm; 0.5 hrs

All totaled up it's 3202 nm, 3684 statute miles, 22.6 hrs of GPS flying time (tach time would be higher). Every leg was VFR, dodging rain and clouds as necessary. The airplane did get rained on a couple times.

The cherry on top is that the arrival at KISP on Monday afternoon was under a Special VFR clearance. The field was 900 broken, 1400 overcast, 10 miles visibility.

Booyah!

:D:D

Re: Ft Collins - Legs

I have done 27 hours in the last two weeks in the Commander; a little over 12 to and from
Triple tree (9-9-17), 2 hours for the ADSB test flight and learning the ADSB set-up with the IPad. Then off to KFNL and some mountain flying and return home. Since I had a break between trips, I'd give Frank the long cross country hours endurance prize. In addition, I had VFR weather on both trips, and tailwinds on 3 out of 4 legs. I love September flying conditions! Frank had the stress of poor weather to deal with, he wins.

Re: Ft Collins - Legs

Two of my best months ever. August: 40.4 hours. September, 37.8 hours.

Re: Ft Collins - Legs

Might have you for round trip anyway,... [emoji6]. OH to CO to NM to AZ to CA to AZ to NM to TX to OK to MO to OH. Whee... haven't tallied the miles yet but some interesting wx.

Say gang, T82 has built a new Outdoor Tiki bar for our next fly-in there. They must have heard they were in the running for another visit.

Way better location for a fly in than KFNL was.

Not so fast, being a real Trooper that Maggie is, she (and Todd) volunteered for a Pilot and Paws mission a few days later. Here we are consolidating a load in mid-Bama.

If I need to do some recon, just let me know!

Re: Ft Collins - Legs

Re: Ft Collins - Legs

There was a fuel discount for the Commander group at KFNL??? I never heard about it...how much was the discount?

The ladies at the FBO counter told me the fuel discount for Commanders was a 0.25 cents/gal discount, I asked her what the price was and she said $5.12/gal. Saturday I had them top me off, which took 80.4 gallons, so when I closed out my ticket Sunday morning it showed fuel price at $4.52/gal on my ticet. If I remember correctly from their fuel sign inside the FBO it also said 100LL Avgas was $5.12/gal. So based off this she gave me a 0.60 cent/gal discount. Is this what others were charged also ($4.52/gal). If not what were others charged while there during the flyin????

I was going to fly somewhere else to top off since I knew I was going to need close to 80 gallons but decided what the heck I'll just top off here and not have to stop again for several hours.

What was everyone that took on fuel at KFNL Charged????

Re: Ft Collins - Legs

I also got $4.52

Re: Ft Collins - Legs

$4.52 per,

Took on enough to get Colorado Plains to top off at $3.89 and as I was shooting a GSP approach through some low stratus I was asking myself, 'is this really worth saving 63 cents per'????
hey knocked out another approach for currency . . .;)
