N1349J was destroyed in ’94. In ’97 written off the FAA Registry as destroyed. On May 17, 1994, at 1645 Pacific daylight time, a Rockwell Commander 112A, N1349J, was substantially damaged during a forced landing near Henderson, NV. The private pilot and his two passengers were not injured. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed for the personal flight. According to the pilot, he departed runway 18 and a shallow right climbing turn was initiated after the gear was retracted. A 200 rpm loss was experienced and a gradual degradation of engine power was observed without any sign of vibration, detonation, backfiring or sputtering. The loss of power continued to the point where the airplane could not maintain altitude. The pilot elected to turn towards a busy highway, but had to veer away to avoid colliding with vehicles on the highway. The airplane touched down on the left shoulder of the roadway with the landing gear extended. Prior to coming to a stop on the desert floor, both main landing gears collapsed after impacting a drainage ditch. The reason for the loss of engine power could not be determined.<O</O
Neal my AP sent me that photo 2days ago and I was going to post it to the COG website but you beat me to it. Sherman should get kick out of it along with those Alabama and Oklahoma boys. WhooHoo!! They could fly it to their favorite hunting blind and noodling mud hole. Too Funny.
Hi Brett! Yup neat as a project! New interpretation of ' Preserving Classic Airplanes'. Haven't done a lot of Dune Buggy or Off Roading, but always liked the original Rockwell 112 paint scheme.
One of our JCNA members in Ottawa Canada put an Jaguar XJ6 body on a raised Dodge 4x4 chassis for Winter Jaguaring. Kinda looks like a mini Monster truck setup. Did this way b4 4wd Jaguar X-Type. Don- do you know Phil Karam from the Ottawa Jaguar Club Concours at your aiport? Keeps his diverse collection in a huge circus like tent in his backyard. Lots of unique 'Eye Candy'!
I dunno.
I am a mudder too but thats what a buggy and jeeps are for. I wouldn't do that to any GA airplane ..
I want them to either end up as parts donor or end up on stick displays. Hopefully when mine retires someday (never), I'll put it on a 20 foot high pole at the entrance to my driveway ! My garage space is too precious for a static display. Hmm. How about a GA light airplane museum. Ken ?.
Everyone already has the DC3s and warbirds. If classic cars have a place ..
