Just a quick Poll to see the interest.

I know the virus is playing havoc on everyone, in my case we're limited to 100 nm travel from our base without a waiver.(Military Commanding General order)

If you feel like it, update the poll and we'll see what pans out.

Poll will timeout on (20 Sep 20)

Good luck out there,
John

We have reservations, but, we are still on the fence about attending. I selected undecided.

The resort says all the restaurants are open and they are practicing social distancing and wearing masks. They stated the shuttle will run from the airport to the hotel for fly-in guests, just give the airport call in advance 812-936-2222 or email manager@frenchlickairport.com. The airport manager would like a plane count if possible, I do not know who is in charge of the shim dig, but I will check the poll next week and update him (Jeff) with the numbers who respond to the poll.

Everyone - a reminder that this is an unofficial fly-in. That means there is no agenda, schedule, events, etc. This is strictly a social get-together for owners that would like to participate. Dates are still Sept 18-20 ish

We are already working on ideas for next year where we should be able to get back to a more normal fly-in.

Mike and Kim Carpenter will be attending. N5424D will also be in attendance. We have reservations at West Baden and are arriving on 9/18. Hope to see a good unofficial turnout. Be Safe. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Since I’m only a 1/2 hr flight from French Lick, I’ll probably come for dinner, but likely head home afterwards and not stay the whole weekend.

I do like the easy(for me) Midwest location. The resort sounds nice too. With all that’s going on, and since I’m working anyway, I’ll likely skip the gyrations required to get the time off. If for some reason I’m off & weather is favorable, would love to scoot down.

Mary and I decided to cancel. Currently working on options for Mackinack Island or a short weekend hop to Martin State, close to home, to visit with friends.

Wishing everyone a safe flight and fun times. We look forward to next years event.

Baileys are still coming as of today.

I don’t know if I will have my plane or my endorsements yet but I might drive over. We are only 1:30 min from there. New pilot, new plane, just don’t know what will happen yet.

For those not going to the Commander Fly-in I am hosting an EAA breakfast at my place on Saturday September 19th.2020. We will have a VIP parking for any Commanders that come in.. To get here just jog up or down V-97 to Pecan VOR and then fly 4 nm on the 345 radial. (122.8) Breakfast will be 8am onward. If arriving on horseback call me when you get close to Sasser .Ga. 229 407- 0200.

I would be going to French Lick if I was not getting by eyes worked on on the Thursday. All have a great time and post some pictures.

Life is a barrel of fun.

Ken

Sad to say with the location being the closest to our home, but I’ll have to change my vote to not coming this year. My L-3 transponder was removed for repair 5 weeks ago and no word as to when it’s replacement will show up. Apparently the company has new owners and the transition puts the damper on customer service, ( the virus might have something to do with it also ).

Sorry to hear you won’t make it Rolf. FWIW, I spoke with the FBO today and indicated to him that we are currently expecting something in the 13-16 plane range. There is apparently a Citation “inappropriately” parked on the ramp but he is expected to depart on Thursday. They know that there is a gaggle of the “usual suspects” arriving on Wednesday and more to follow. All new staff this year. They have been coached up about our tank flappers and the non-standard nose axle. We will hold another seminar about those items when we arrive. Looks like possibility of a spotty wee scottish mist possible on Wed and Thurs; but otherwise nice wx for the non-event. Start your go kart engines and bring on the dancing elephants!

Sorry we won’t get to visit Gary. Invitation remains open if your plans change. BTW, as a born and bred Michigander, I feel obliged to advise there is no “k” in Mackinac. (Also pronounced MACK-i-naw for those unfamiliar)

Hi Bill, Glad to hear that you are still coming to French Lick. Kim and I are planning to get in on Thursday. So another 13 plus Commanders are making their way to Indiana as well. That’s great! Is there an unofficial list of Commanders that are traveling in? Thanks! See you next week. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I know that this is not an “official“ fly in, but is there any sort of itinerary about the weekend? Dinners, group activities, etc.

The group activities will be sitting around to discuss all things Commander

Indeed. Not aware of any definitive list of attendees Mike. Heard today that Pete Sattig is coming in on Thursday (as is Lonnie). Bailey, Walker, and Hopkins are all due in tomorrow. Perhaps not traditional annual fly-in, but there will be plenty of COG elbow bumps and aviation jaw boning going on in West Baden and French Lick. Good wx to boot!

If you are looking for something to do in Indiana besides the social thing. Of course, that is the best thing about the fly ins. Roy Williams has his new facility open. http://www.airframecomponents.com/ There was a plane to do a formal visit until the formal programs were cancelled. I was there with a group of pilots last Saturday. He has the state of the art manufacturing, repair station. His fixtures and tools have been the best in the market and he has them in a very organized new building with all the details. Sound deadening, and the lights automatically adjust so there isn't any distractions so the guys can focus on their job. No shadows. Even the rest rooms and lunch area are laid out to be convenient. He has always had the premier control repair station and now Roy has the best to show. There are a number of videos on YouTube if you would like to see without traveling there. If you like, give him a call, he would love to have you visit.

Anyone happen to remember the flyout destination used for breakfast near FRH back in 2012-2013? More planes arrived Thursday and expecting more again on Friday. Group enjoyed a festive dinner at 33 Brick St on Thursday. It’s a growing gaggle and the wx is beautiful.
