COGers ... We have a lot of FLY-OUT options for you at 2012 French Lick. Due to the "herding cats" nature of this group (to put it kindly) and although it should be obvious, let me remind you that that THESE EVENTS ARE TOTALLY OPTIONAL! This is not Communist China or even New York State. You can stay in your room and watch "those" movies, sit at the bar day & night, participate in Sid's Massage marathon -- Indian Style, whatever you like. The ideas in this poll are things that at least one deranged soul thought a few similarly deranged pilots thought you might like (or not.) So, please respond to the poll casting a vote for anything that sounds good to you and you feel you have a HIGH LIKELIHOOD of participating in. For any that show enough enthusiasm, we will schedule.

If there is a reason you think something would be fun or entertaining or educational or for some reason good, a post would be welcome. If you don't like something, or don't want to participate, no need to comment. (If you are not going, why would your negative opinion matter?) Here are some notes about each - all times were calculated for a 114 using Voyager, no wind. Your results may vary:

1. Wednesday Evening. Reds vs. Pirates: 45 min flight. Cincinnati Lunken (KLUK), aka "sunken Lunken" and home to Martha Lunken of Flying Mag fame, is just a totally cool airport by the Ohio River. Lots of runways, easy in/out and a neat art deco terminal. Good airport restaurant. only 10 minutes (or so) to Reds Stadium. Reds are one of the hottest teams this year and Pirates a big surprise in 2nd in the same division. If you want to go, need to know soon because this year tickets are harder to get. Great stadium, too. If you want to drink beer or other adult beverages, you can easily get a hotel and come back to FRH in the AM.

2. Thursday Lunch or Dinner. Moonlight BBQ, Owensboro KY: 27 min flight. A Kentucky institution. Feed thousands weekly and people come from all over. Also cater across a broad area. Massive buffet of BBQ everything. They pick us up at KOWB and only 5 min from the airport. Check your weight & balance before departing.

3. Friday Noon. Lunch at Eagle Creek. KEYE. 33 min. flight. Fantastic restaurant on the lake. Nice view of Downtown Indy and Indy 500 Speedway going in and Indy controllers are very helpful.

4. Friday Morning. Tour of Williams Airmotive -- add-0n to Eagle Creek Lunch. C62 Kendallville IN, (cheap gas.) 1:23 min flight. Leave at 8:00 AM. Tour of Williams, best wing and sheet metal shop in the world (according to many.) This place is amazing. 25,000 wings and surfaces. You could eat of the floor in any of the shops. Wonderful people. Very educational. Leave Kendallville go direct to KEYE to meet others for lunch. 45 minutes.

5. Saturday Morning. Dawn Patrol to Lee Bottom Airfield. 64I near Madison, IN. semi-famous grass strip, 4100 feet in immaculate condition. Easy in and out. If you love grass (fields) or have always wanted to try grass (fields,) this is your place. We may have a catered breakfast but will decide that after we decide if we are going. The field is open, but their facilities and equipment were badly damaged by a freak tornado in May. They are raising money for repairs so I would ask all participants to chip in $20 per plane for a small donation to them. When you land on the field, you will agree it is a great cause.

p.s. Bill, sorry I misspelled Cincinnati in the poll! It is very late.

Re: French Lick 2012 Fly-In Options

If no comments are made, the thread does not show up as a "New Post." (Radu ... can you fix that?) So I am updating so everyone can easilly see the votes. Everything is doing pretty well except the Reds/Pirates. We don't necessarilly need a crowd by any means, for anything. But was hoping for at least 8-10 for any event we planned. More is fine, though.

In the past, the list of who is registered is usually posted. I may have missed it, but has that gone up?

Re: French Lick 2012 Fly-In Options

Well, it was "new" when it was new! They have some way to pin a poll like this on the side somewhere, don't they?

Re: French Lick 2012 Fly-In Options

Looks like all Fly-outs are ON except for the Reds Game. However, if you have not indicated your preferences, please do so we will have an idea of how large a group we have for each. For those who are interested, a cool way to fly back is the take a low level flight down the Ohio River to and past Louisville, then head back to French Lick. Louisville Approach is very accommodating and you get a great view of Churchill Downs. We will pre-scout any towers or obstructions.

Pat Murphy just called and he has some exciting news about the trip to Williams Airmotive and will do a separate thread on that. This is something you won't want to miss. You are guaranteed to learn somethings about the AC11 you never knew and will see first-hand why our bird is better-built than the competitors. I asked Pat to do a separate post on the Williams trip with details.

A week before we will do a last minute check on numbers who are flying to Williams. Pat has some transportation arranged but will need to know if we need one vehicle or two. If anyone is planning to go and meet us just for the lunch at Eagle Creek, that can be decided up to the day before, as the restaurant is quite large. Same thing for Moonlight in Owensboro.

Re: French Lick 2012 Fly-In Options

Michael Boyd who is based at KOWB and has a personal account at the Moonlight has volunteered to take charge of that fly-out. Depending on what else is scheduled, it could be either Lunch or Dinner on Thursday. We can decide when we get closer. Michael also has a cardiologist friend I have encouraged him to invite.

Re: French Lick 2012 Fly-In Options

I did a fuel stop at OWB on the way to the 09 fly in at Boyne Mountain. Great stuff! The BBQ mutton sandwich sounded like something to pass on but it was fantastic. Highly recommended by us.

Re: French Lick 2012 Fly-In Options

I don't eat anything that comes with mint jelly.......period.

Re: French Lick 2012 Fly-In Options

Baaaa-aaaad one Petey! :p

Re: French Lick 2012 Fly-In Options

Mutton is just one of about 10 things they BBQ on any given day. Most folks just get the buffet and pig out on whatever they want.

Re: French Lick 2012 Fly-In Options

This thread got my taste buds thinking. So I stopped at OWB today and went to the Moonlight BBQ. Nothing has changed in 60 years that it has been open. Well maybe the decor was updated in the 60's.

Had the mutton and the pulled pork. No mint jelly anywhere in sight.
