Hope you Aussies forgive me posting this here (especially after the Rugby World Cup semi-final).

NZ has wonderful landscapes and a fantastically varied geography compressed into 2 small island by Aussie & US standards. The scenery is brethtaking and the Wx very variable in terms of clouds.

The pilot community is friendly to an extreme and they have some fabulous historical and Vintage aircraft makers. Peter Jackson (Lord of teh rings fame) has translatred his World War I airplanes into a professional passion - Vintage Aircraft factory - yes factory in Wellington turns out CAD CAM parts using computer controlled routers and machines for woood and fabric biplanes that are beautiful replicas of Foker monoplanes, triplanes, Sopwith Camels, Albatroswses, and others (see photo Sopwith Pup). They even make the old engines rotarys included.
These planes are sold to museums the world over.

The World War I museum in Omaka (Blenhein near the Northern tip of teh South Island is superb. There are even 2 De havilind Mosquitos being built near Auckland one at the Ardmore airport 20 miles S of Auckland ( N Island)and one at Drury an bit further South. These are also works of love and precision.

As you can see from the other 2 pics I was working very hard there on my visit. I stayed with a couple I met at the Airshow I went to,
they have this Tiger Moth - he is from Alaska she's a kiwi and I got 2 Tiger moth rides 1 from each of them! Hiow's that for good living, must come as a reward for all the clean living I do.
They are very nice your people and friendly to a fault.

Everywhere in NZ the natives were very cheerful, friendly very polite and loved extreme sports and the out doors.

They have a national election near the end of Nov and boy could we make some money training them how to campaign. I mean you only saw 1 poster per candidate or party per city block AND they don't make personal attacks on opponents in the debates! I think they must have good TV since they don't need to be entertained by their political campaigns.

Regards Sid

Re: Flying & Visiting New Zealand

Sid, that looks awesome, didn't know you were on a world tour! My one time in an open cockpit gave a new meaning to how aerodynamics works, the air is thick and cool like water at "airplane" speeds....

When are you back?

Sid,

Are you wearing a wig in that first picture, or did you bleach your hair?
