Hello All! My wife and I are heading to the Big Island Hawaii in the Hawaii Islands for 10 days in mid May. I am wondering if we have any Commander Owners or friends of friends who could be looking for a Co-Pilot for a trip around the Island. Or any advice on best way to see the Island from above..

Thanks!

Re: Flying Hawaii

I have flown Maui, Kauai and the big Island but never in a Commander.
My experience was that it was way more cost effective to fly with a CFI than pay for the 3 hours or so required for a checkout. The CFI's flew right seat and we're great tour guides.

On Maui I think they were Maui Flyers but don't recall the others names. On the Big Island we flew out of Kona (and it is a big Island, over 3 hours to fly around it.)

From Maui we landed on Moloka'i and picked up some of their Bread at the terminal (great stuff - CFI told us about it)

Have a great trip!

Re: Flying Hawaii

There is (or was) a Commander owner based in Honolulu. Do a search and you'll probably find the info.

Re: Flying Hawaii

FAA says: N4888W/114 on Big Island (Hilo) and a couple of 112s in PHNL... Don't think any of these participate on COG?

Re: Flying Hawaii

Thank you for your feedback, looks like I"ll get some dual time with Tropic Bird while on the Big Island. Staying just north of Kona AP so this is pretty easy. Again, thank you for all of your replies...

Aloha!

I did my Bi-annual Flight Review out of Honolulu International. Great flying. Take your GoPro with you if you have one. The scenery is outstanding.

Just in case, in '07 I rented a PA-28 Arrow from

Reasonable, less than an hour checkout & I was on my way to Molokai/Hawaii.
