Flew my grandson up to KSLR Sulpher Springs TX to tour the American Legend Aircraft factory. They make a heck of an updated SuperCub! After that we ate lunch at the Reb Barn Cafe across the street from the field.

This was my first flight to fly an approach and hold with the new Garmin Smart Charts. It really was pretty neat - very clean look and easy to brief. Not a total "game changer" but as a current Garmin Pilot user I am glad to have that feature.

Your grandson looks to be having a fun time. Glad you boys had a fun day.

I use Foreflight but I watched aviation101, Josh Flowers do a demo on the garmin smart chart. Very impressive and it cleans things up.

By the looks of it, wont be long till the grandsons ready to move into the left seat...

I think that the main benefit is that it does QUICKLY clean up your briefing time for the charts - approach, SIDS, and STARS. Actually probably really a big benefit for STARS in anticipating which one will be assigned.

I have a GTN 750 navigator, so probably not a total "game changer" but if you are still flying a GNS 430 or 530 (or something even older) these "Smart Charts" could really be a big benefit.

My teenage grandson is at the age when everything is an opportunity to get some shuteye!

:) At least you didn't have problems with that pesky fly that stowed away prior to your departure. Ha!

Always good to have a co-pilot and navigator when flying in Alaska.
